Mika Parsons says Jayden Daniels' tie in Week 5 likely cost Dan Quinn his Commanders head coaching job.
Mika Parsons claims Jayden Daniels' firing in overtime against the New York Giants likely cost Dan Quinn his Commanders head coaching job.
Nick Wright on Rams vs Bills, Commanders OT error, time to trade Herbert? | Full interview flock
Nick Wright joins Colin Cowherd to discuss the Los Angeles Rams' loss to the Buffalo Bills, whether Jayden Daniels or the Washington Chiefs are to blame for the teams running out of time against the New York Giants, and if the Los Angeles Chargers should trade Justin Herbert.
Jaden Daniels' sack instead of throwing the ball out of bounds led the Washington Chiefs to a much-needed overtime victory over the New York Giants on Sunday.
Green Bay Packers star defensive end Micah Parsons believes the move, which led to a 27-27 tie in Week 5, cost Daniels his job.
Chiefs head coach Dan Quinn's seat has been hot for a while now, but it may be hot now after what happened in Week 5, when Daniels went down in field goal territory with no timeouts and the clock ticked down in overtime to tie the game.
It came after the Giants gave them a chance to win, as Cam Scotbo looked for a running play in field goal range for his kicker that would have been a potential game-winner in overtime.
The Chiefs were stunned as Kevin dropped his headset on the sidelines as he knew his team should be 2-3 instead of 1-3-1. And frankly, he should have known that the questions and speculation about his job security were even louder.
Parsons added to it in the final episode "The Edge with Mika", where he blamed Daniels at that final moment.

"Jayden Daniels is probably done for my man Dan Quinn," Parsons said in the episode.
I'm a huge Jaden Daniels fan, but the reality is he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.
Kevin was Parsons' defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys from 2021 to 23 before accepting the head coaching position with the Chiefs.
The Commanders led at home for most of Sunday's game, and Malik Naberz tied it with a touchdown in the fourth quarter to force overtime. And Giants kicker Dominic Zwada, who missed three field goals in the contest, missed a 46-yard attempt in the opening overtime.
Daniels should have just thrown the ball away, but the controversy over the final play in overtime has left the coaching staff and the team as a whole deserving of blame — not just the caller.
Magic Johnson makes a rare snap post after the Chiefs defied the Giants.
"With all due respect, we coach in these situations so much that I'm a defensive player and it's programmed for me," Parsons added. "I know what to do in those situations.
"There's no way I'm going to sack with 14 seconds left and no timeouts. And mind you, it would be different if Jaden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year. You were in the NFC Championship Game, you've been in big moments before. To me, even after being fired, you usually get back up. ... I'm like, 'You just took a sack.' ... He doesn't even get up immediately."
Either way, after a brutal 2025 season that didn't make it to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, 2026 wasn't off to a great start for Quinn and the Chiefs. They sit at the bottom of the NFC East and could certainly use this win to move to 2-2-Phillaagaphles and Commanders.
For Daniels, it was a learning moment, but one Parsons and others believe he should have known before he caught the ball. It was his first road game since re-dislocating his left elbow in Week 2 against the Cowboys.
Still, Daniels played a solid game, especially with his feet. The injury didn't seem to deter him from running, as he rushed for 103 yards with two touchdowns on the ground, while going 17-of-25 through the air for 199 yards.
There's no doubting the talent the former Heisman Trophy winner has — it's been on full display since winning the 2024 Offensive Player of the Year award. And while Daniels' teammates were apathetic at the time of the sack, the fact that the quarterback went down with the ball in his hands and no timeouts in the first place is a real issue that Parsons believes trumps any other argument.
Will this cost Kevin his job? Leadership is called into question when the defender pulls this type of stunt. Kevin then talks about what Daniels is not to blame for. However, Commanders left guard Chris Paul told 7News DC that the lack of a timeout was discussed in the huddle before the snap.
As for Daniels himself, he said, "We have to recognize the circumstances. We have to address it as a violation. It starts with everybody, from the top down. Ultimately, it's on me."
Although Parsons said it was up to him, he wanted more accountability.
"I'm a player. I'm a big fan of JD5, but it's inexcusable bro. The lack of urgency, that's something ... I should have said something in the locker room. I should have come and talked to him, like, 'Ow, that's okay.'
