It has just been announced that Dune and Spider-Man star Zendaya is working on a sci-fi project with Ex Machina director Alex Garland. The untitled project will be released by A24, an entertainment company that has made a name for itself with weird and wonderful projects.

According to Variety, the plot is also currently under wraps, but Garland's previous sci-fi works have focused on revealing the good and bad in human nature through futuristic ideas like clones, androids, and quantum computing. Last year it was confirmed that one of Garland's current projects is to write and direct an Elden Ring adaptation, also with A24.

In an interview last year about his attraction to the genre, he said: “Sci-fi allows for really big subject matter without having to feel embarrassed about it, and a lot of other genres, including, incidentally, straight adult drama, sometimes get really shy about big ideas.

"Science fiction just says, 'Do whatever you want.' The bigger the idea, the better. Bring it on."

Zendaya's upcoming films include Dune: Part Three , which is set for release on December 18, the Ronnie Spector biopic Be My Baby , and she's lending her voice to the new Shrek movie.
