Bahman Dan Criticizes Weak Screenplays; Iran Is Common Ground for All of Us

Film and television actor Bahman Dan, stressing that he does not distance himself from his convictions about Iran in order to secure job opportunities, said that Iran is common ground for all of us.

According to Mehr reporter, Bahman Dan, a film and television actor, said whether he has paid a price in the professional field due to his beliefs and positions about Iran: I was born in a very religious family in the southeast of the country. I grew up in the congregation and grew up in the religious house. Since I was five years old, I was broadcasting in the sugar and tea board. I have been mourning Imam Hussain (AS) for a lifetime and I am proud of this. I don't care if they give me a job or not, so that I want to distance myself from my ideology and have a different view for the sake of work.

The actor pointed out that the producers should know that working with him professionally does not mean abandoning his views about the country and his beliefs, and stated: I never fall short of my beliefs.

In response to a question about how to deal with political and social disagreements with his colleagues, Don said: If the difference in views is too great, trying to convince the other party may not be successful and will only cause annoyance to both parties. For this reason, I prefer that every person in a free country has his own thinking.

Referring to the necessity of respecting the beliefs of others, he said: If I pray, no one should disturb me and say why are you praying. There is no problem if I do my religious work or even get attacked online.

This actor stated that loving Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and loving Imam Hussein (AS) as well as loving the country may have costs, adding: We must try to reach an agreement. 2 lines may not intersect at first, but at some point they will meet. Whether those who agree with me or not, we will reach each other at the same point. That point is nothing but Iran and our country. Iran is the common point of all of us.

"Glass Agency" and "The smell of Yusuf's shirt"; Examples of lasting works

In response to a question about the works that he still considers valuable and referable, the film and television actor mentioned the films "Glass Agency", "The Smell of Yusuf's Shirt" and "Lily with Me" and emphasized the importance of the script in the longevity of the works.

Criticizing the situation of screenwriting in Iranian cinema, Dan said: We really don't have as many good screenwriters as the fingers of one hand, and if we have such scripts and they become movies, they will last. Script writing should not be done solely based on personal taste and mentality and adding parts of society to it, such an approach is one of the reasons for the failure of some works.

To explain the importance of the script, the actor compared the cinema to the construction of a building and said: Just as a beautiful building is the result of careful design and calculations, making a film that can attract the attention of the audience also needs a powerful script. If we are going to make a film that will attract the attention of the world, we must undoubtedly have a very good script.

Bahman Don's memory of a lasting dialogue

Referring to the enduring dialogue of the series "Hidden Game" directed by Shapour Gharib, Dan said: Gharib asked me to express a sentence that I usually utter in my daily life for use in the series. As a result of the sentence "I used to reach out to someone, first I would hit, then I would ask. Now that I'm old, I ask first, then I hit him" was used in this series and was noticed during the broadcast. This memory still remains in my mind after many years.

"under the razor"; Experience working with prominent artists

Referring to his cooperation with Mohammad Reza Artman in the "Under the Blade" series, this actor considered this director to be one of the tasteful and capable figures and stated: During the collaboration with Mohammad Reza Artman, Parviz Perstowi, Attila Pesiani and other artists, I have gained valuable experiences. Before appearing in "Zir Tigh" I was also active in the field of acting and played roles in various works including the "Trial" series. But "Under the Razor" was one of the most influential and popular experiences of my career.

Expressing hope for the future of cinema and television, he said: I hope that such scripts will be written and produced, that young people will come and act in them, and that we too will enjoy watching these works.

Bahman Dan's wish for the future of Iran

Don said about the biggest wish and regret of his life: "My honor is to see my country at the highest point." This is the biggest wish I have; Both scientifically, culturally and economically. I hope this wish will come true as soon as possible. I hope that the field will be provided for the production of higher quality plays and the young generation of actors will be able to participate in projects with strong scripts.
