Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers because of a superficial blood clot in his leg that has been treated for nearly a week.
The Eagles released a statement Thursday regarding the quarterback's medical condition and announced his impending absence.
"On Thursday, Oct. 8, Jalen requested treatment for his shin after practice. He informed the medical staff that it was torn during the Rams game on Oct. 4. It was his first treatment session for the shin injury after the game, after a full practice Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen was treated, practiced fully and was added to the practice report.
The EAGLES released Pro Bowl quarterback Andy Dalton after just one disastrous pass in the loss.

"Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was done on Saturday after the team flew to London and walked. Ultrasound showed a superficial blood clot. Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and Jalen could play safely. Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound 72 hours after the game and flight back to Philadelphia.
"Jalen played without restriction in Sunday's game, received treatment Monday and Tuesday and practiced fully on Wednesday, as reflected in the practice report. We have been in contact with the league office throughout our time in London and this week."
"On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound showed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be out for Sunday's game against the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety is our highest priority."
Blood clots can be dangerous because they can block blood flow to vital organs and cause a pulmonary embolism, stroke, or heart attack. They can also damage tissue or be fatal if they form or move without prompt treatment.
The fact that the Eagles say they have informed the league about Hearts' situation indicates the potential seriousness of the matter.
