Death of Danton Seen After 10 Years: Introducing Rising Actors

Nasser Hosseini-Mehr plans to stage 'The Death of Danton' at the Tehran City Theater complex this coming winter, after a 10-year absence from the stage.

Nasser Hosseini-Mehr plans to stage the play "Danton's Death" after 10 years away from theater stages, this winter in the city theater complex.

According to Mehr reporter, Nasser Hosseini-Mehr, a writer, translator, teacher and director with a history of theater, who last staged the play "Blind Owl" about 10 years ago with the presence of young theater actors in the Chaharsoi Hall of the Shahr Theater Complex, is once again directing a new work.

In his new experience in the field of directing, he plans to perform the play "Danton's Death" in the winter of this year in the city theater complex.

About this performance, Hosseini Mehr told Mehr reporter: After nearly 10 years of forced stay at home, I plan to stage Georg Buchner's "Death of Danton" with talented young people who joined "Theatre 6" group through an invitation from different parts of the country.

Regarding the time and place of performance of "Danton's Death", he added: The performance of this play is scheduled to begin on 25th of February this year in Chaharsoi Hall of Shahr Theater Complex.

This artist with a background in theater recalled: I still don't have any information about the financial support of the General Directorate of Performing Arts for this show, but both the Director General of Performing Arts and the head of the city theater complex were very supportive and welcomed us with open arms. I hope this support becomes more and more serious.

Hosseinimehr continued his speech and said: I hope this time the situation will not be like 2 years ago when I stopped performing "Danton's Death". "The Death of Danton" is expensive with 20 actors and heavy set construction, but I don't want to continue my stage work with one or two-act plays. Except for performances that are produced and performed with full support, most theaters have moved towards having one or two actors. It seems that this process has become routine.

The head of "Theatre 6" group stated: The cultural policy maker should think about the state of the budget of the theater because if there is no thought in this regard, the theater will distance itself from its growth. For this reason, I chose the magnificent play "Death of Danton" for performance, which is hardly performed in the European theater.

He continued: I have proved that there is no need for faces in theater and talented young people are the future capital of Iranian theater. I also approached this work with a modern approach.

In the end, Hosseini-Mehr explained about the subject of "Danton's Death": This work is Buchner's first play and tells the story of patriotic men and women who emerged and came to power during the French Revolution. Unfortunately, these people did not agree on taking power and destroyed each other.
