Bill Maher says he will have dinner with Trump again

Liberal comedian Bill Maher revealed on his "Club Random" podcast that he's having dinner with President Donald Trump again.

Liberal comedian Bill Maher revealed on Monday that he is having dinner with President Donald Trump again.

"I'll have dinner with him again next week," Maher told Hollywood agent and executive Ari Emanuel during a conversation on the "Club Random" podcast.

"After the first dinner, I went back to doing what I'm doing ... but then he was just, like, clueless, let's have dinner again. And I was great. And he was really nice," Maher said. "Like, I promise I won't talk bad about you like last time." And I texted and said, "You know what, you're the president of the United States." Say whatever the f--- you want. I'm just glad we're talking.' It's like Don Rickles called him a "hockey puck." It's just what he does. This is how he talks."

Maher and Emanuel both agreed that it is better to talk to those who disagree with them than not to disagree with them. Emanuel, who previously served as Trump's surrogate while on "The Apprentice," told Maher that he spoke with the president on Monday.

"It blows my mind that there are people in this world, and a lot of them on the far left, who would turn down this opportunity, a private dinner at the White House with the president, just one month," Ikemaher said. I've heard people say, "Well, I don't like war." Tell him! "You can tell them and I will."

Maher Larry David bashed Emanuel's client, who previously criticized the HBO host for his White House dinner last year, while downplaying his agent's relationship with Trump.

"It's so interesting to me that Larry David, like, I'm the devil because I'm talking to him, but his own agent just talked to him on Monday," Maher laughed as Emanuel tried to refrain from weighing in. "In a way, when the agent himself does exactly that, that's it, so we're not playing the Hitler card."

Monday's podcast episode was released, but it's unclear if the dinner has already taken place. Neither the White House nor Maher's representatives responded to requests for comment.

Maher and Trump were public enemies for more than a decade until their mutual friend, Kid Rock, brokered a meeting between them that led to a dinner at the White House. During a monologue, he said that Trump was more kind and good-natured than he expected.

He also credits Trump for being "more self-aware than he lets on in public," revealing the topic of the 2020 election during his visit to the White House and how he "wasn't upset" by how Maher handled Trump's rare admission that he had lost.

Maher said, "Look, I get it. It doesn't matter who he is at a private dinner with a comedian. It matters who he is on the world stage. I just see this person as a positive. Because everything I've never liked about him, I swear to God, at least on this night with this guy, was absent."

"I never felt like I had to walk on eggshells around him," he told his audience. "And to be honest, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I never felt comfortable talking to them the way I could with Donald Trump. It was like that. Make of it what you want. Me? I feel like it's a symbol of why Democrats are so hated these days."

Their relationship seems to be on good terms behind the scenes, despite the public spat since dinner. Maher earlier this year received the Mark Twain Award from the Kennedy Center, which Trump oversees as chairman, and the White House has reportedly tried to block Maher from receiving the award. Trump has also repeatedly attacked Maher's "low score" on Truth Social in recent months.
