Return to Abe Lenstra / Jahanbakhsh Returns to His Old Home

Alireza Jahanbakhsh will face Heerenveen, one of his former clubs, in Excelsior's shirt in Week 9 of the Dutch Eredivisie.

According to "Varzesh Se", Alireza Jahanbakhsh will have a different experience on Friday night. Tomorrow night, Excelsior is the guest of Hirnfin at Abelenstra Stadium, and the captain of the Iranian national team will enter the stadium where he played for a season as a player of the rival team.

Jahanbakhsh joined Hirnfin in November 2024 and scored three goals and provided two assists during 19 appearances in Eredivisie. After the end of that season, he went to Dender, Belgium, and this summer he returned to Dutch football with a one-year contract and wore Excelsior's number 11 shirt.

This 33-year-old player has played six times for Excelsior this season, but his total minutes have reached 94 minutes and he has not yet had the opportunity to play from the beginning. Jahanbakhsh entered the field as a substitute player in all these matches and has not yet recorded a goal or an assist.

His last appearance is related to Excelsior's 5-1 defeat against Groningen, when Jahanbakhsh entered the field in the final minutes. The match with Hiernefin could be a new opportunity to increase his playing time and bring him closer to the starting line-up, although the return of Abelenstra alone makes this game particularly attractive.

Jahanbakhsh, who has a history of wearing Nijmegen, Alkmaar and Feyenoord shirts, has spent a large part of his career in the Netherlands. Now another of his meetings with the past has arrived and it remains to be seen how much time Ruben Denville will give his experienced Iranian player in the stadium of his former team.
