Islami Nadoushan's Prominent Role in Hafez Scholarship

Coinciding with 20 Mehr, Hafez Shirazi Commemoration Day, a look at the scholarly record of Mohammad Ali Islami Nadoushan shows that he became familiar with Hafez's Divan in his family home in Nadoushan from childhood, and this attachment led over decades to lectures and books such as 'The Never-Ending Story of Hafez', 'Reflection on Hafez', and 'Four Spokespersons of Iran's Conscience'. These works placed him among the country's recognized Hafez scholars.

Iranian Ambassador of Arjan Literary Service (Sefir Arjan) - Hossein Masrat: Muhammad Ali was no more than a child who got acquainted with the pleasant poems of Hafez, which his mother Bibi Khavar and his poet-loving uncle Abdul Reza Emami would whisper at home. In those days, Diwan Hafez was placed in the windowsill of most homes in Iran, even in a remote village like Nadushan, next to the Quran. sometimes for reading and sometimes for meditation, because he was a knower of secrets. That is why Muhammad Ali became fascinated by Hafez's melodious and melodious ghazals, and he may have composed his first songs in his youth following Hafez in the form of ghazals.

When Mohammad Ali Eslami Nadushan came to Yazd to continue his education, he bought authentic editions of Hafez's Diwan from booksellers in Yazd and Golbahar, and as he says, on cold winter days, he would sit under the pleasant sunshine of Yazd and read his favorite books such as Saadi's Kaliyat, Hafez's Diwan, Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, etc.

Then he went to Tehran and Alborz High School and studied with the masters of literature, such as Mehdi Hamidi Shirazi, Zabihullah Safa, Mahmoud Sana'i, Yahya Mahdavi and Parviz Natal Khanleri. He joined various literary associations in Tehran and collaborated with important magazines such as Sokhn, Mehr and Yaghma. He wrote his first poems in 1325 AH. He published it under the name "Ceshmeh" which was in four parts; A combination of couplets and Masnavi.

Even though he studied law from bachelor's degree to doctorate, his attachment to Persian language and literature was evident in his works. Therefore, in 1348 A.H. At the invitation of Dr. Fazlollah Reza, President of Tehran University, he came to Tehran University to teach literature.

He wrote several speeches about Hafez in such publications as Information, Hafezology, Kerman Culture and Literature, Tehran University Faculty of Literature and Humanities Magazine, Danesh Publication, Hasti and Yaghma. [1] He spoke about Hafez in several literary gatherings and gatherings in Iran and Europe, and wherever he went, he mentioned the four best orators of the Persian language, Ferdowsi, Saadi, Molavi and Hafez. Finally, in 1368, he published his first book about Hafez called "The Endless Adventure of Hafez".

It was then that Iranian literary lovers became familiar with his name as Hafez-Pazhoh and his name was mentioned among Hafez-Pazhoh in the books "Encyclopedia of Hafez and Hafez-Pazhohi" by Bahauddin Khorramshahi, "Hafez-Pazhohan and Hafez-Pazhohi" by Abolqasem Radfar and "Hafez Bibliography" by Mehrdad Nikan. Therefore, he accepted the invitation of famous universities and literary groups of the world to lecture about Hafez. In addition, he was one of the famous speakers in several conferences of Hafezology held by the efforts of the Center of Hafezology in Shiraz.

Dr. Eslami Nadushan had a special place for Hafez Shirinsakhan in his many works and speeches. In his autobiography, "Days", he also mentioned Hafez and wrote about his trip to Shiraz and visiting the tomb of this poet:

"I wanted to reach the city of Saadi and Hafez, and Shiraz, because it produced two unique speakers, seemed unique to me:

Although I know that the path will not lead anywhere, it is strange for me to go to the head smell of that troubled snot

I went to visit Hafez. I don't think a more spiritual spot than this one can be found in Iran, and not maybe in the world; And then the tombstone that hides under it the charming poet and the most elegant speaker of the time. The one who understood Iran's pain more than anyone and spoke better than anyone and said what he said, that no region has had such a lyrical speaker whose voice is not interrupted by the broken branches of this country. I sent greetings to his soul, he who is the first enlightener and the last messenger of the religion of love. [2]

"Spring in Iran has a meditative mood. Iranian literature, in its purest form, is the literature of spring in which it invites to the joy or regret of the passage of life. Nothing reminds me of the transience of life more than the spring of Iran. Therefore, it is necessary to hasten and receive. Hafez is the pinnacle of this call and meaning... Saadi and Hafez, each in a way, shows the spirit of Shiraz. Elegance and subtlety, their tolerant orientation, taming contradictions..." [3]
