BBC Blurs Trans Rights T-Shirt of Dragon House Star on Strictly Come Dancing

The BBC has confirmed that it blurred the trans rights slogan on the T-shirt worn by Bethany Antonia, the House of the Dragon actress competing on Strictly Come Dancing. Antonia, who plays Lady Baela Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff series, rehearsed in white for the UK version of Dancing With the Stars.

The BBC has confirmed it has removed the transgender rights slogan from the T-shirt of House of Dragons actress Bethany Antonia, who is competing on Strictly Come Dancing.

Antonia, who plays Lady Baela Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones spin-off series, rehearsed for the UK version of Dancing With the Stars in a white shirt that read, "Protect the Dolls."

The BBC released a video of a Strictly rehearsal session on social media last week in which the slogan can be seen. Antonia's T-shirt was later removed for Saturday's telecast. The BBC said in a statement: "As is standard practice with any BBC entertainment program and in line with our editorial guidelines, appropriate steps are taken to minimize the inclusion of any obvious branding or slogans that may be present, regardless of the wording or statement in question." The "Doll Protection" t-shirt was designed by Connor Ives, who presented it at London Fashion Week 2025. "Dolls" is what the LGBTQIA+ community refers to trans women. The shirt has since been worn by the likes of Pedro Pascal.

Antonia has not commented on the BBC's decision to remove the slogan. He is partnered with Nancy Khoo, a professional dancer, and continues to compete. Gavin & Stacey star Melanie Walters was eliminated at the weekend.

Antonia has previously worked with Russell T. Davies and appeared alongside Helena Bonham Carter in Nolly. He has also made a guest appearance on Doctor Who alongside former Strictly Come Dancing champion Rose Ayling-Ellis.
