Critically Injured Patient Transferred from Amol to Tehran in 100 Minutes

The head of Tehran Province's Air Ambulance said a 20-year-old woman injured in a road accident was transferred from Amol to Shohada Tajrish Hospital in 100 minutes, with the cooperation of two helicopters and three ambulances.

In a conversation with Ambassador Arjan's reporter, explaining the details of this operation, Mohammad Qadri said: This victim, who suffered a concussion, abdominal injuries and broken limbs due to a car accident in Amol last week, needed to be quickly transferred to a more equipped medical center due to the severity of his injuries and the deterioration of his general condition.

He added: The injured person was subjected to initial treatment at the hospital of origin, and due to his serious condition, endotracheal intubation (intubation), chest tube placement on both sides, and splenectomy (spleen removal) were performed for him. Considering the sensitive condition of the patient, ground transfer alone was not a suitable option and the necessity of air transfer and careful coordination between medical and flight teams was put on the agenda.

Referring to the coordinations made for the implementation of this mission, Qadri said: After announcing the need to transfer the patient to Tajrish Martyrs Hospital, a coherent coordination was formed between the hospitals of origin and destination, the emergency operation centers (EOC) of Mazandaran and Tehran provinces, the country's emergency and the air emergency teams of Amol and Tehran.

He continued: According to the plan, the Amol air emergency helicopter transported the injured to the landing pad of Firuzkoh, and at the same time, the Tehran air emergency helicopter also flew to this place to pick up the patient. The exact timing of the arrival of the two helicopters at the meeting point was very important in order to avoid delaying the patient and increasing the risks caused by the transfer.

The head of the air emergency of Tehran province stated that two helicopters arrived at the place almost one minute apart, and stated: With the coordination of the flight teams and operatives, the patient was transferred from one helicopter to another helicopter in Firozkoh and then continued towards Tehran to be finally handed over to the ambulance teams.

He added: Due to the restrictions related to the landing place near Tajrish Martyrs Hospital, a part of the route was also covered by an ambulance and the patient was finally delivered to the emergency department of the destination hospital.

Pointing to the sensitivity of the injured person's condition along the way, Qadri noted: Considering the severity of the injuries and the special conditions of the patient, any delay or inappropriate transfer could be dangerous; Therefore, the coordination between medical, flight and ground teams played an important role in the implementation of this mission.

In the end, he said: This operation was carried out with the participation of two air emergency helicopters and three ambulances, and after about 100 minutes from the start of the air transport from Amol, the injured was delivered to Tajrish Martyrs Hospital in a stable general condition. This mission is an example of the importance of interdepartmental coordination and cooperation of the emergency department for the quick and safe transfer of critical patients to specialized medical centers.
