Iran Sets Historic Record with 18 Gold Medals at International Science Olympiads
The head of the Young Scholars Club announced that Iran won 18 gold medals at the 2026 international and global science olympiads. The news of Iran's historic record of 18 golds at global science olympiads first appeared on Safir Arjan.
According to the report of Ambassador of Arjan, Seyed Reza Hosseini, in a meeting attended by the honorees of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, referring to the performance of Iranian scholars in the 2026 World and International Science Olympiads, he stated: This year, the case for the World and International Science Olympiads is almost closed and Iran has won a total of 18 gold medals. It has been a valuable and rare number in the history of science Olympiads in the country.
Comparing this year's results with last year's, he said: Last year, despite participating in two more competitions, including the International Mendeleev Olympiad and the Asian Physics Olympiad, Iran won a total of 11 gold medals in the world and international competitions, but this year this number increased to 18 medals. A growth that shows the serious determination and capability of the country's elites and the support of scientific committees.
Referring to the TV message of the Martyr Leader on October 1 of last year and his reference to the achievements of Olympiadi scholars, the head of the Young Scholars Club added: At that time, these achievements were considered as a symbol of national capability, and we are happy to see the result of the support and attention given this year in the form of significant growth.
Hosseini continued by emphasizing the difficult conditions of obtaining these results: these successes were achieved in war conditions; The conditions that made it difficult for many classes to be held face-to-face; It limited the possibility of using laboratories and practical spaces such as observation and affected the access of scholars to the Internet and scientific resources of the world.
Recording historical firsts in science Olympiads
Referring to some special achievements of this year, the head of the Young Scholars Club said: In the Geosciences Olympiad, Iran's representative won first place in the documentary presentation section of the World Union of Geosciences. A valuable honor achieved by one of the country's female students.
Hosseini added: In the World Geography Olympiad, where the Iranian team consisted of girls, it was able to win the first place in the world in the team presentation section. This success is important because Iran won a medal in the World Geography Olympiad for the first time.
Referring to Iran's achievement in the World Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence, he said: despite the challenges caused by war and attacks on infrastructure, for the first time we succeeded in winning the gold medal of the World Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence. A special event that made Iran one of the 10 to 15 gold medal holders of this competition.
The head of the Young Scholars Club expressed hope that in the next three years, Iran will be able to reach the top three countries in the world in the World Artificial Intelligence Olympiad.
Iran's best result in the World Physics Olympiad in 20 years
Referring to the performance of the Iranian team in the World Physics Olympiad, Hosseini said: This year, the country's best result in the last 20 years was achieved in this competition, and the five-member Iranian team managed to win three gold medals and two silver medals.
By comparing this result with the performance of previous years, he explained: In the last eight years, Iran had won a total of one gold medal in the World Physics Olympiad, but this year, the students of our country won three gold medals in this competition in this same year and in war conditions.
The head of the Young Scholars Club also announced that he won the first place in the world in the experimental part of the World Physics Olympiad and said: For the first time, the cup of the experimental part of this competition reached Iran and an Iranian student won the first place in the world. After many years, this cup was removed from the control of countries such as China and Korea, and its acquisition by another country attracted the attention of many participants.
Referring to the performance of the Iranian team in the World Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, Hosseini considered this competition to be one of the most prominent arenas for the country's scholars this year and stated: The five-member Iranian team won five gold medals in this Olympiad and ranked first in the world for the third year in a row.
Explaining the results of the individual sections of this competition, he added: the Iranian student got the highest score in the theoretical section of the world; The first place in the practical section also went to Iran, and the cup with the highest score of the entire competition was also won by that country.
The head of the Young Scholars Club continued: Previously, the best rank an Iranian student had achieved in the history of the World Astronomy Olympiad was the second rank in the world, but this year the first, second and third ranks in the world all went to Iranian students. Also, all the individual awards of this competition were allocated to the representatives of Iran; An unprecedented event that is considered one of the most powerful championships in the history of this Olympiad.
2026; The year Iran registered many firsts in the World Olympiads
Referring to the different characteristics of Iran's scientific teams this year, Hosseini also pointed to the average age of the head of the country's astronomy and astrophysics team and said: while the average age of the head of some teams in other countries is more than 40 or even 50 years, the average age of the head of the Iranian astronomy and astrophysics team was about 25 years.
Emphasizing that 2026 was the year for Iran to record many firsts in the World Olympiads, he said: Many of the events that took place this year happened for the first time in the history of Iran's participation in these competitions.
Referring to the efforts of some international media to paint a picture of Iran as a war-torn country in the field of science and technology, the head of the Young Scholars Club said: "When young Iranians strive despite all the difficulties and stand at the top of the world's scientific competitions, such depictions are far from the reality of the country's capabilities and its credibility is questioned."
Referring to the participation of Iran's national science Olympiad teams in the 2026 world competition under the title of "Minab School Caravan", the head of the Young Scholars Club said: This year, the symbol of the Iranian delegation was a pink backpack decorated with the blood of martyrs, which was chosen in memory of the student martyrs of Minab School, and it aroused the attention and questions of many participating countries.
Referring to Iran's achievements in the field of management and decision-making of international science Olympiads, Seyedreza Hosseini stated: This year, we won the position of the general director of this Olympiad in the World Biology Olympiad. This incident shows that Iran's efforts in clarifying views and creating consensus among countries have been effective, and countries have come to the conclusion that they will hand over the leadership of this scientific competition to Iran.
Referring to the presence of Iran's representative in the International Mathematics Olympiad committees, he added: This year, for the first time, an Iranian became a member of the Question Design Committee and the Ethics Committee of the World Math Olympiad. Membership in the Ethics Committee was done through voting, and following this voting and the selection of Iran's representative, the Zionist regime, which was previously a member of this committee, was removed.
The head of the Young Scholars Club, emphasizing Iran's active position in the international arena of elites, said: These events show that Iran's position in the scientific field of the world is not a passive one; Rather, our country plays a role in the decision-making and orientation processes of international scientific competitions, and Iran's views are important for a number of countries.
Referring to the international scientific activities of Iranian graduates, Hosseini said: When Iranian graduates design and organize the Iranian Geometry Olympiad in different parts of the world, this competition takes place simultaneously in 300 cities of the world.
He also mentioned the holding of Iran's International Composition Olympiad and added: 73 countries participate in this competition, and one of its cultural programs is to invite students from the participating countries to record and send a video in Persian.
Referring to these achievements, Hosseini emphasized: Iran's presence in the field of Science Olympiads is not only limited to winning medals; Rather, playing a role in the management of global competitions, participating in scientific decisions and expanding events that have been formed by the initiative of Iranian graduates are also part of the country's scientific capacity at the international level.
