Country's Wind Power Capacity Currently Only 371 MW

Currently, the country's wind power capacity stands at 371 megawatts, and plans are underway to increase this capacity with the participation of domestic investors.

According to Ambassador Arjan, the development of wind power plants as one of the solutions to increase clean electricity production can play an important role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels, managing energy imbalances and diversifying the country's electricity production portfolio. A capacity that, in addition to investment, the realization of its goals requires the development of infrastructure and detailed planning for exploitation.

Currently, the capacity of wind power plants in the country is 371 megawatts, and plans are being made to increase this capacity with the participation of domestic investors.

In this context, Mohsen Tarztaleb, the Deputy Minister of Energy, recently answered the question of the economic reporter of the Young Journalists Club, referring to the development plans of wind power plants and stated: Fortunately, by the end of October, 10 power plant units will be put into production.

He added: "Mapna and a private company have invested in this sector, and we hope to increase this capacity to 75-100 megawatts next year."

Development of wind energy and reducing the pressure on the power grid

One of the most important advantages of wind power plants is the production of electricity without the direct consumption of fossil fuels during the operation phase. This feature can help reduce the consumption of gas and liquid fuel in thermal power plants and free up part of the country's fuel resources for use in other economic sectors.

On the other hand, increasing the share of renewable energies can reduce the dependence of the electricity production system on thermal sources. In a situation where electricity demand increases during peak periods, having diverse sources of production becomes more important.

Of course, wind power plants are dependent on weather conditions and their production rate changes in different hours; Therefore, these power plants alone are not a complete substitute for controllable power generation capacities, but if they are properly located and the network is properly managed, they can provide a part of the country's electricity needs.

Many experts in the field of energy believe that the development of wind power plants should not be evaluated based on the number of units built or their nominal capacity. The main indicator is the amount of electricity produced and its delivery to the network, the amount of fuel consumption and the cost of electricity.

In other words, increasing the installed capacity creates more economic value when the power plants are built in suitable windy areas, their equipment performs optimally, and there is no limit to the transmission of generated electricity to the grid.

In this regard, strengthening the electricity transmission network, improving the prediction of wind speed and direction, and coordinating the production of renewable power plants with other energy sources are among the measures that can increase the return on investment in this sector.

Also, the development of energy storage systems and intelligent management of consumption can help control the fluctuations of wind power generation; However, the implementation of these solutions should be done based on the technical and economic evaluation of each region.

investment; A condition for the realization of development plans

The development of wind power plants requires initial capital, provision of specialized equipment, wind measurement studies and access to appropriate infrastructure. In the meantime, the participation of the private sector and the ability of domestic companies in the design, construction and maintenance of equipment can accelerate the process of project implementation.

However, the stability of regulations, the transparency of electricity purchase contracts, the facilitation of financing and the shortening of the licensing process are among the effective factors in attracting investors. If the economic risk of projects increases or the implementation process is prolonged, the possibility of delay in operation and increase of costs also increases.

On the other hand, choosing the right place to build a power plant is very important; Because wind speed and stability, distance from the power grid and connection costs have a direct impact on the amount of production and economic justification of the project.

Finally, increasing the capacity of wind power plants can help reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, reduce the emission of pollutants, and develop employment in the fields of engineering, equipment manufacturing, and maintenance services. Also, strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity in this industry can provide the basis for technology development and reducing dependence on imported equipment.
