As Saturday Night Live fans tear down Shane Gillis' third attempt at hosting, Kathy Griffin is weighing in on her controversial monologue.
After last weekend's episode, the two-time Emmy-winning comedian called Gillis and other "hacks" "Joe Rogan-influenced" following backlash for Gillis calling women "whores" for wearing shorts at the club.
"As a comic I think I'll always fight for the First Amendment and his right to say it, but I don't have to like it," Griffin told Page Six. So, I defend her right to say it, as well as the right of others to think less of her.
Gillis' opening monologue during SNL was a tight five about fitness with workout buddies Rogan and Theo Vaughn, during which he put on his best female voice to mimic gay clubbers, complaining that "women dress like whores now" at the club. Watch on Deadline
While Gillies' short set bombed on Saturday, it was met with backlash from fellow comedians and fans, particularly in the wake of an alleged gang rape by members of a fraternity known as the Cornell 7.
Griffin takes comedian Rogan's manosphere as the subject, explaining that "everyone tells the same jokes," often to the detriment of women.
"There are a lot of hacks that work really well that come from TikTok or the podcast world," he noted. "He's not the only one out of Joe Rogan's influence."
"There are so many," Griffin continued. They all look the same to me. They all look like they can't lie down. They all look the same to me. They're all telling the same jokes... and they're telling jokes about women from 100 years ago, like women who should be in the kitchen and shut up and stuff.
Gillis' last hosting gig on SNL came after he hosted in 2024 and 2025, after the NBC comedy dropped him days after his announcement in 2019. The decision was made in response to videos of Gillis mocking Asian accents, in addition to using ethnic and homophobic slurs.
