Game 4 of the American League will eliminate the day off, forcing Cleveland Gardens and the Tampa Bay Rays to play four games in a row.

Persistent rain in Cleveland forced MLB to postpone Game 4 of the American League Series. The stadium's ground crew had to pull the tarp before the scheduled 8 p.m. ET first pitch.

Ground crews continued to work to save the game, but only until about 9 p.m. ET, the league announced that the game has been moved to Saturday. It also moved Game 5 to Sunday, eliminating an off day and travel day for Cleveland Gardens and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Major League Baseball desperately needs to reform its terrible postseason scheduling practices

If the series goes the distance, the Guardians and Rays will play four games in four days to determine who advances to the World Series. Games 6 and 7 were scheduled for consecutive days, Monday and Tuesday.

The Guardians also acknowledged the inclement weather in a statement and announced that tickets purchased for Friday night's game will be honored.

"Fans with tickets to the original ALCS Game 4 on Friday, October 16th can use the same tickets for ALCS Game 5 on Sunday, October 18th at 5:00pm ET. Gates will open at 2:30pm ET."

Before tonight's decision, it had been nearly four years since Budbaran changed a postseason game. The previous rainout occurred on Halloween 2022, pushing Game 3 of the World Series between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies to the next day. Philadelphia defeated Houston 7-0 on November 1, 2022.
