EXCLUSIVE: Eva Longoria stars as executive producer of La Tierra del Valor, the new film from L.A. Times Short Docs has signed on to be directed by award-winning filmmaker Cristina Costantini.
The documentary, which airs Thursday, follows Neza, the Latin American pop star who bravely sang a Spanish version of the US national anthem at Dodgers Stadium last year, even as ICE agents swarmed the city with immigration raids.

"On June 14, 2025, as Day Without A King protesters filled the streets of Los Angeles, Neza took to the field at Dodger Stadium to sing the national anthem," a statement read. But instead of the traditional English version, he bravely performed "El Pendón Estrellado," a Spanish-language performance commissioned in 1945 by President Franklin D. Among Costantini's works, we can mention the scientific exhibition, co-directed by Darren Foster; Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado (co-directed with Karim Tabash), and Sally, his documentary about astronaut Sally Ride. La Tierra del Valor was produced by Costantini and Costantini's husband, Alfie Cotter. Together they directed the award-winning 2022 short film The Originals.
"I grew up with a vision of America where families like mine could belong, could build, could live without fear," Costantini said. "Watching the promise of our country collapsing as ICE agents continue to terrorize innocent people. Yet, when so many people chose the peace of silence, Neza chose courage. And in that moment, she made me proud to be an American again. I hope Neza's story is a reminder to all of us that courage and bravery are reserved for politicians, but that courage is for political people. Everyday people."
Along with actress and filmmaker Eva Longoria, the film was produced by Chris Abruzzo and Rachel Mendes of Hyphenate Media Group, the production company founded by Longoria and Abruzzo. They are joined as EPs by the Muck Media team of Emmy Award winners Mariana Van Zeller, Darren Foster, Jeff Plunkett, Alex Simmons and more.
"At a moment when ICE raids hit Latino communities, Neza stood on the national stage and reminded the world that being American has never been defined by a single language or heritage," Longoria observed. By singing our national anthem in Spanish, she captured a symbol of our shared identity and turned a moment of fear into a powerful declaration of belonging. "I am honored to join Christina and the filmmaking team, especially as the violence and injustice that Neza stood up to continues to terrorize communities across the country."
L.A. Times Short Docs, now in its fourth season, is an Academy Award-winning series that "celebrates documentary filmmaking with a West Coast perspective... [showcasing] the work of established and emerging voices who defy convention and present undiscovered stories that challenge, move and inspire audiences."
Executive producers include: Eva Longoria, Yuna Ma, Jihan Robinson, Mariana Van Zeller, Jeff Plunkett, Alex Simmons, Darren Foster, Juan Arenas, Myrna Perez, Josh Albillo, Sarah Schoellkopf, Terry Tang, Anna Magzanyan and Jason Spingarn-Koff.
