Hemmati: Claims of Iran's economic collapse are mere illusion; Iran's economy has shown strong resilience

Governor of the Central Bank, speaking at the International Monetary Fund meeting in Bangkok and referring to the imposed war by the United States and Israel against Iran, which has been accompanied by maximum sanctions and economic pressure from the U.S., stressed: Despite all these pressures, Iran's economy has demonstrated remarkable resilience, and claims of its collapse are nothing but an illusion.

At the meeting of the International Monetary Fund in Bangkok, the head of the central bank emphasized the war imposed by the US and Israel against Iran, which is accompanied by the maximum sanctions and economic pressures of the US: despite all these pressures, Iran's economy has shown great resilience and the claim of the collapse of Iran's economy is nothing more than an illusion.

According to Ambassador Arjan Abdulnaser Hemmati, he said in this meeting: "Our priorities at the Central Bank are to curb inflation, stabilize inflationary expectations, maintain financial stability, and continue banking services and the payment system."

Hemati stressed: Despite the economic pressures and US sanctions, the Central Bank of Iran has played an important role in maintaining economic stability by providing currency for the country's basic needs and medicine and curbing the acceleration of inflation. We are committed to monetary discipline, strengthening policy frameworks, and addressing macroeconomic imbalances, and these efforts must be weighed against external shocks and fiscal constraints that limit policy space and policy effectiveness.

The Governor General of the Central Bank added: The continuation of the situation in the region affects the energy, transportation, trade and investment markets, and stability requires respect for sovereignty and legitimate security concerns, along with cooperation based on mutual responsibility and common interests. These developments require a clearer and more proactive response from the Fund in line with its mission to strengthen international monetary cooperation and monitor the effective functioning of the international monetary system.

Hemmati emphasized: We expect the Fund to examine the economic effects of war, sanctions and restrictions on international payments in its bilateral and multilateral monitoring activities with the same precision as it evaluates domestic policies. This responsibility requires analysis with the same criteria for all members and active dialogue among members about the necessary measures to reduce these effects.
