New York, October 17. /TASS/. Russian citizen Alexander Suvorov, who was extradited from Sweden to the United States, will be held in custody during the trial, according to New York Northern District Court documents reviewed by TASS.
"On October 16, 2026, a preliminary hearing was held. The defendant, through counsel, voluntarily waived his right to a detention hearing. In announcing that waiver, the defendant's attorney said he explained the nature of the detention hearing to the defendant. The defendant reserves his right to a hearing at another time."
The court ordered that the defendant be placed in a correctional facility and "provided a reasonable opportunity for private consultation with defense counsel."
Earlier, the US Department of Justice said Suvorov, 52, was extradited on October 15. He is charged with three counts of illegally exporting microelectronic components from the United States to Russia through a Hong Kong-based company. The Russian is expected to appear in court on October 16 in Albany, New York. If convicted, he could face up to 45 years in prison and a $1.75 million fine.
A Russian diplomatic official told TASS: The Russian Consulate General in New York has not yet received an official notification from the American side about the extradition of Suvorov, and plans to visit Albania after receiving it.
