Treatment of psychiatric patients under the shadow of high cost and shortage of drugs

The head of Rozbeh Hospital said: "In recent months, the high cost and lack of some drugs has caused a number of psychiatric patients to not continue their treatment and face the recurrence of previous problems."

Amirhossein Jafari, in a conversation with Mehr reporter, about the most common psychiatric disorders and the services provided in this hospital, added: If we want to examine psychiatric diseases based on their prevalence, depression and anxiety disorders are among the most common diseases among the general public. In general, mood disorders, including depression, as well as anxiety disorders, are the most prevalent among psychiatric disorders; Accordingly, among the patients who use the outpatient services of the hospital, these types of disorders have a greater share.

Referring to the age groups covered by the hospital's inpatient services, the head of Rozbeh Hospital said: Our inpatient services are mainly provided in three age groups: children and adolescents, adults and the elderly. In the field of the elderly, we are faced with significant needs from the society, which unfortunately we are not able to respond to all these needs.

Explaining the necessity of hospitalization of some children and teenagers suffering from psychiatric disorders, Jafari said: In this age group, there are disorders that affect the academic performance, social performance and interpersonal relationships of a person. Some of these disorders may also be associated with risks for the individual or others, and because of these possible risks, the necessity of hospitalization of the child or teenager is raised.

He added: There are similar conditions in the adult group and some people may need to be hospitalized due to the potential risks caused by their psychiatric condition.

Providing pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and treatment of sleep disorders in Rozbeh Hospital

Describing the services of this center in the field of mental health, the head of Rozbeh Hospital stated: As mentioned, we provide outpatient and inpatient services. Outpatient services include drug therapy, psychotherapy and treatment of sleep disorders. Also, the treatment of sexual and marital disorders and psychological problems related to interpersonal relationships is done in this hospital.

Jafari continued: Various types of psychotherapy, including analytical and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, are also offered in Roozbeh Hospital, and in general, a relatively complete set of mental health services is available to clients in this center.

He emphasized: Despite the variety of services provided, this capacity does not meet all existing needs and people who are waiting to receive services. Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to this issue so that we can respond more appropriately to the existing needs in the field of mental health.

Expensiveness and lack of medicine, an obstacle to continue the treatment of psychiatric patients

In response to a question about the possibility of supplying psychiatric drugs from domestic production and the need for imported drugs, the head of Rozbeh Hospital said: "Thanks to God and the efforts of pharmaceutical companies, very high-quality drugs are currently being produced in the country, and only a limited number of drugs need to be imported."

Referring to the intensification of problems related to the supply of medicine in recent months, Jafari said: However, in the last few months, the problem of shortage and high cost of medicine has become more prominent and has affected many of our clients.

In the end, the head of Rozbeh Hospital noted: In some cases, due to the lack of medicine or its high price, patients have not been able to continue their treatment. As a result, the problems that these people have faced before have recurred. This problem is becoming one of the serious problems of psychiatric patients, and the problems caused by the shortage and high cost of medicine have made it difficult to continue treating these patients.
