American embassy warning about air travel in Saudi Arabia; Employees need a special permit

The American Embassy in Saudi Arabia, warning about the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions, announced that the government employees of this country need a special permit to use Saudi airports.

According to Ambassador Arjan, the American Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a notice about security conditions and possible disruptions in air travel and asked American citizens to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.

According to this announcement, there is a possibility of cancellation of flights, closure of airspace and disturbance in travel plans. The American Embassy has advised passengers to get their flight information directly from the airline and the relevant airport, and to exercise extreme caution if using Saudi airports.

The embassy also suggested the use of private cars, trains and buses as alternatives to air travel and asked travelers to ensure the availability of services and the schedule of transportation before planning.

In another part of this announcement, travel restrictions for US government employees are mentioned. Accordingly, American employees stationed in Saudi Arabia need a special permit to use any of the country's airports.

Also, these employees are not allowed to travel within 20 miles, equivalent to about 32 kilometers, of the border of Yemen without obtaining a special permit. Travel to Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces and the cities of Qatif, Yanbu and Taif are also restricted and require a special permit.

The American Embassy further referred to the Saudi Ministry of Interior's warning about filming and publishing information about intercepted missiles and drones and where they hit, and reminded that American citizens have been arrested for taking pictures of recent events. According to this notice, visitors and residents of Saudi Arabia are required to comply with local laws.
