Apple is hosting an event on October 13 that looks to be all about smart homes. The tagline for the event is certainly a big hint - "Welcome Home" - but the company is also heavily rumored to be launching a range of new smart home products soon.
According to Bloomberg, one of the rumored new products is a smart home hub with a display that includes the newly released Siri AI assistant. MacRumors has obtained official images of the new HomePod Mini with fresh colors and the new Apple TV 4K with a design similar to the current version. Bloomberg has also reported that Apple is working with LG on devices like video doorbells and thermostats, and recent renders appear to be leaked showing some of these new devices.

This week, Apple is hosting its first dedicated smart home event. While the company hasn't shared details about what it will reveal at its "Welcome Home Experience" in New York City on Tuesday, October 13, it doesn't take an army of netizens to conclude that we'll be getting news about the Apple Home — specifically, new hardware. It seems that Apple is finally taking the smart home seriously.
According to Bloomberg, Apple will release a smart home display alongside the HomePod Mini and a refreshed Apple TV. The display, which MacRumors reports may be called HomeView, is arguably the first dedicated Apple Home hardware since the launch of the HomeKit platform in 2014. As exciting as this is (and I'll be there to check it out in person), the real change will be bringing Siri's AI and Apple's intelligence into the home. Apple is years behind Google and Amazon in smart home hardware, but success in the home depends much more on software. This is where Apple can outpace the competition.
What to expect from Apple's "Welcome Home" event
We're fast approaching Apple's "Welcome Home" launch event, where we expect a slew of smart home-related announcements. We expect Apple TV and HomePod Mini updates, as well as an all-new smart home hub. We can also see the introduction of a new platform called homeOS and some LG partner devices.
What we probably won't see is the long-rumored touchscreen MacBook, which Cupertino whisperer Mark Gorman says will be unveiled later this month.
Apple may have registered to trademark the word "HomeView".
Apple potentially used a shell company called Home Services LLC to secretly file for a "HomeView" trademark in the United States and various other countries last year, around the same time another shell company called Home Operations Suite LLC, which may also be related to Apple, filed for the "homeOS" trademark.
Perhaps this is the phrase for something that will be announced at the October 13 "Welcome Home" event? At least we don't have to wait long to find out.
