Democrats' "Squad" formally introduced a bill to abolish ICE, the Border Patrol and dismantle DHS.

The sweeping bill bans federal border wall funding, closes Guantanamo Bay, and completely eliminates Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as Customs and Border Protection.

DHS doesn't 'pick and choose' which rules to enforce: Secretary Mullin

DHS Secretary Marquin Mullin speaks on "Sunday Night in America" about Democratic calls to dismantle DHS amid the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.

Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., has officially introduced sweeping legislation to dismantle the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), repeal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and eliminate Customs and Border Protection (CBP), introducing a major proposal that would fundamentally overhaul federal immigration laws.

The progressive squad's "Rethinking the Safety Act" would replace DHS with a new "Department of Community Safety" while retaining several existing federal agencies, such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The law would eliminate CBP, including the Border Patrol, and dismantle the federal agency currently responsible for securing America's borders and screening travelers and goods entering the country.

While some immigration and customs duties would be transferred to other federal agencies under the Ramirez legislation, the proposal would eliminate CBP's existing executive structure.

The bill's lead sponsors include fellow "squad" member Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., along with Reps. Adelita Grijalva, D-Ariz., and Jim McGovern, D-Mass., according to the office of Ramirez, D-Mass.

The legislation also prohibits federal funding for the border wall beginning in fiscal year 2027 and requires the closure of the military detention center at Guantanamo Bay within 60 days of passage.

"The radical left wants to defund the police and abolish DHS. That will never happen. Our 270,000 patriotic DHS keep Americans safe - unlike this open borders politician who refuses to put Americans first over illegal aliens," Mullin said.

A DHS spokesperson also criticized Ramirez, saying he "should be thanking our law enforcement officers for removing these dangerous criminals from our area — not discrediting law enforcement."

"Americans wake up every day with a new reason to dismantle DHS, reimagine security, and build something that honors our shared humanity," Ramirez said.

Under the legislation, the TSA and Coast Guard would be moved to the Department of Transportation, while FEMA and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency would be moved to the proposed "Department of Community Safety."

Customs duties would hypothetically be transferred to the Treasury Department, while some immigration duties would be transferred to the Justice Department.

The legislation must be passed by Congress and become law before any of its proposed changes to enforcement of immigration laws are currently in effect.
