Trump Announces Massive Greenland Oil, Gas and Mineral Exploration Plans, Supports National Security Benefits
President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that experts say Greenland's oil reserves rival almost any land, but details are still unclear.
Trump's Greenland agreement expands permanent US military presence in the Arctic
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that massive oil, gas and mineral discoveries are expected to begin in Greenland.
"Massive oil, gas and mineral exploration is getting ready to begin in our beautiful new Greenland!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
He continued: There are experts who say that the amount of easily accessible oil is much more than almost any land in any part of the world, and more importantly, it is second only to the United States of America and Europe in terms of security goals in defense and offensive.
"Any future attack on the United States would have to take place in Greenland, where our defenses would routinely shoot down drones, missiles or any other type of weapon that has yet to be designed," Trump added.

Trump said Greenland "gives us time, place and perspective, like nowhere else in the world!"
Trump did not immediately provide further details on when or how the probe began.
Greenland's government has stopped issuing new oil and gas exploration licenses in 2021 due to environmental and climate concerns. Some previously issued permits are still valid, although drilling requires additional government permits. Greenland is believed to have significant untapped oil and gas resources, but no commercially proven recoverable reserves have been established.
Trump's comments came after the US, Denmark and Greenland last month signed a new security agreement that would expand US military access to the strategically important Arctic island.
While the United States already had extensive military rights in Greenland under the 1951 Defense Agreement, the new arrangement expands Washington's ability to establish additional military installations, subject to consultation and procedures outlined in the agreement.
Security expert hails Trump's Greenland deal as a "big deal" on par with the Alaska purchase.
The agreement also limits the military installations of non-NATO countries and establishes safeguards against potentially threatening foreign investments in sensitive sectors, including natural resources and critical infrastructure.
Although Trump has sought to annex Greenland, repeatedly arguing that US ownership is necessary for national security, the new deal would not grant the US sovereignty over the island.
Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with Copenhagen having authority over foreign, defense and security policy, and Greenland controlling many of its internal affairs, including mineral resources.
