Gaspart's Harsh Remarks on Leo: 'Who Does Messi Think He Is? Barça Is Greater Than Him!'
Joan Gaspart, former president of FC Barcelona, made harsh remarks about Lionel Messi.
According to "Verzeh Se", Juan Gaspart once again spoke about Lionel Messi and gave him a clear message on the Solo Para Cooles podcast. The former president of Barcelona addressed the possibility of the Argentinian player saying goodbye at the Camp Nou stadium and made it clear that, in his opinion, Messi should return to this stadium to say goodbye to the fans, regardless of who is in charge of this club.
Gaspart has a special relationship with Messi, as he was the club's president when the Argentinian joined Barcelona at the age of 13. Precisely because of this relationship, he wanted to make it clear that his statements in no way question the importance of number 10 in the history of Barcelona.
He explained in this podcast: "I say these words because of the deep love I have for a player who I signed when he was 13 years old and I was the president of Barcelona." However, the former president of Barcelona believes that Messi should not put his personal circumstances before the club. "He has to be careful," he said. "Barcelona is bigger than him."
One of the topics Gaspart focused on was Messi's relationship with Juan Laporta. He believes that the presence of the current president of the club should not be an obstacle for this Argentinian player to return to Camp Nou and receive the appreciation of the fans. The former president of Barcelona said: "It doesn't matter who is the president of the club; "He should come and say goodbye to Barcelona."
Gaspart was even more blunt when talking about the possibility of a Messi tribute, subject to Laporta stepping down. He stressed: "If Lionel Messi comes to say goodbye and doesn't come because Laporta is the president of the club and only comes back one day when Laporta is no longer there, I will not participate in that ceremony."
"Who does he think he is?" Gaspart concluded with a line that sums up his stance on Messi's position at the club.
