CD Projekt has officially begun work on Project Hadar, though it is not yet in pre-production.
CD Projekt Red, the Polish developer best known for its acclaimed Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 RPG series, has officially concluded its vision for a new world. The 'World Vision' stage for its new IP, Project Hadar, is complete, and work on turning these concepts into a video game has officially begun.
CD Projekt Red, the Polish developer best known for the amazing Witcher RPG series and Cyberpunk 2077, has officially finished imagining a new world for us. The World Vision phase for its new IP, Project Hadar, has been completed and work has officially begun on turning these concepts into a video game.
"This has been our biggest undertaking to date and it's been several years in the making, but at this point we can say we have a coherent vision for this world and its key elements," said co-CEO Michal Nowakowski. The team has started work on the game, although it is not yet in pre-production.
In September, CD Projekt Red announced that it was working on the Hadar project, with a team of more than 30 people aiming to "hire 50 more developers by the end of this year. But what? In June, a new job posting revealed what to expect. With gamers." The open world is confirmed!
Of course, CD Projekt Red is currently hard at work on The Witcher 4, which is the studio's next game, due out in 2028. Before that, though, the third major expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past, is slated for next year. Developed by Fool's Theory, a team of former CD Projekt developers, this expansion aims to bridge the gap between The Witcher 3 and the next game in the series, starring Geralt's adopted daughter, Ciri.
After that comes Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. And let's not forget that CD Projekt plans to release a new trilogy of The Witcher 3 in six years. Assuming CD Projekt releases The Witcher 4 in 2028, and the company sticks to its ambitious release strategy for this new The Witcher trilogy, we could see The Witcher 5 in 2031 and The Witcher 6 in 2034. Where Hadar matches everything anyone would guess.
We don't know anything about the world or environment of Project Hadar, but it'll be interesting to see what the brilliant minds at CDPR come up with - especially since it's primarily designed to support massive role-playing. I selfishly wish CDPR would do another license. Give us a good Game of Thrones video game. Please call it Project Hodor.
The next anime series based on CDPR and the shared universe of Pondsmith is coming to Netflix on October 20th. You can check out our interview with the creator of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 for the episode below.
Elsewhere in CD Project Land, The Witcher 3 just received a remaster on consoles and PC, which saw the iconic RPG get a makeover to show people off until development. There were some issues with the new visuals, particularly the heavy flourishes in The Witcher 3 remake, but CDPR fixed that nicely.
