There is no frame from the historical movement in Egypt's game; / Buffon, Kiehlini and Deh Rousi in Iran's national volleyball team!
Seyed Mohammad Mousavi revealed one of the strangest and most historic missions of the Iranian national volleyball team.
According to "Varzesh Seh", Iran's national volleyball team has been among the best in the world for many years and plays in prestigious Nations League competitions every year, but this difficult and honorable path has not been paved. Iran's historic presence in the World League, known today as the League of Nations, has an eventful story; A story that reminds of the efforts of the golden generation of Iranian volleyball.
Seyed Mohammad Mousavi, the proud sprinter and former national team, narrates interesting memories from 2013, that is, the adventurous and breathtaking days of promotion to the 2013 World League. In that year, in order to achieve this great honor, the national team had to first pass the barrier of the Egyptian national team in Cairo, and then defeat Japan in the 12,000-seat Azadi Hall in Tehran in order to gain the permission to participate in the most prestigious volleyball tournament in the world for the first time.
The preparatory camp for the national team to participate in the World League selection began in Slovenia, and Julio Velasco's students then left for Cairo. But as soon as he arrived at Cairo airport, strange things happened. The Iranian volleyball convoy was delayed at the airport for eight hours and the Egyptian army refused to release the players. The situation became so critical that Julio Velasco, the head coach of the national team, personally contacted the officials of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), protesting the poor condition of the airport and the host's behavior.
Mohammad Mousavi says about that difficult day: "They kept us at the airport for eight hours and didn't even give us a seat or a place to rest; "We were kept in an inappropriate and dirty area on the ground."
However, the Egyptians' disruptions did not end at the airport. The host, who was very worried about losing at home, refused to provide the main match hall for the Iranian team's practice and considered a training hall similar to a karate hall for the national team's training.
The psychological games of the Egyptians continued on the day of the match and during the pre-match ceremony. The host tried to disrupt the Iranian players' concentration with various tricks. including when playing the national anthem.
Mousavi explains in this regard: "When the hymns were played, the Egyptians played their hymns at the highest volume through the speakers of the hall; But when it was our turn, suddenly all the microphones and speakers were cut off, and the faint sound of the small tape recorder that was on the side of the floor could hardly be heard." This unconscious movement reminds us of the Italian national football team. Where, in recent years, the enthusiasm of Azzurri stars such as Gianluigi Buffon, Daniele DeRossi, Gennaro Gattuso, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and other players of this team was noticed many times when singing the Italian national anthem.
Mousavi, who was greatly angered by this behavior of the host, took action himself and sang the national anthem in a loud voice. This unexpected action was immediately met with the company of other players and members of the technical staff; So that the national anthem of Iran echoed in the great hall of Cairo without any speakers. Remembering that moment, Mousavi says: "The jugular veins of all the children were swollen while singing the hymn, and a completely epic hymn was formed."
This unique zeal and prejudice did not go without results; Iran's national volleyball team won two qualifying matches against Egypt in Cairo with the results of 3-0 and 3-1 and advanced to the next stage. After returning to Tehran and the enthusiastic support of the audience in the Azadi Hall, the national team defeated Japan to make history for the first time and register the valuable quota of the World League in the name of Iran.
