Cash Patel demanded an apology from MS after the network falsely reported that the FBI director had traveled to Russia.
FBI Director Cash Patel apologizes to MS NOW after the network falsely claimed he "landed in Russia" for the meetings, it was revealed.
FBI Director Cash Patel is asking MS NOW to issue more than one correction after the network falsely reported that he had landed in Russia.
"MS NOW sent me to Russia based on two anonymous sources. I was in Virginia and appreciated law enforcement at Liberty University. The network had to correct its false reporting," Patel wrote on X on Thursday.
"It was a fundamental failure of verification," he continued. "They were wrong about my location, and they're wrong about the successes of the FBI and our cooperation with state, local and tribal law enforcement. If a network can't confirm where I was before it airs, how can people trust their reports about what our agents and officers do every day?"
Patel added: "This is bigger than a false story about me. The men and women of law enforcement deserve accurate reporting as they protect communities and keep violent criminals off our streets. Three apologies are owed to the FBI, the law enforcement community, and the American people."
MS is now issuing a correction after reporting that Cash Patel "landed in Russia" when he was actually in Virginia.
On Wednesday, MS NOW host Peter Alexander informed viewers of "breaking news" that Patel had "landed in Russia" to attend the meetings. MS NOW Justice Correspondent Ken Dilanian, citing two FBI sources, said there were concerns within the agency about Patel's alleged visit to the Kremlin.

Shortly after MS NOW published its breaking news report, the liberal network's FBI Rapid Response X account teased that Patel was actually in Virginia for a law enforcement appreciation event.
Dilanian was later forced to issue an amendment.
"I want to correct earlier reports today," he told MS NOW viewers. "I reported that two sources told us that FBI Director Kash Patel had landed in Russia for a planned trip that was recently reported. We have since learned that Patel did not actually land in Russia today and remained in the United States. The FBI did not respond to our questions when we asked them about this."
"But we now know that he has not already landed in Russia," Dilanian continued. "The timing of any possible trip is uncertain. Again, we regret this mistake and are clear about when we make mistakes."

There was speculation among critics that Dilanian's false report was the result of an attempt to expose whistleblowers at the FBI. An FBI official would neither confirm nor deny that the leadership had conducted such an operation, but said the two whistleblowers involved would "probably" be identified as a result.
