Iran, US Continue Talks via Pakistani and Qatari Mediators: Spokesman

Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran is currently reviewing US proposals for a seven-day plan to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran, October 12. /dice/. Ismail Baqaei, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said: Pakistan and Qatar continue to mediate in the conflict between Iran and the United States.

He said in a press conference: From a technical point of view, countries like Pakistan and Qatar continue to act as mediators between Iran and America.

Baghai noted: Tehran and Washington continue to exchange communications. He said: "Iran is currently considering the American proposals regarding the seven-day plan to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz."

The United States and Israel started a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that provided for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, overnight on July 8, the United States resumed large-scale attacks against Iran, accusing Tehran of violating agreements on the Strait of Hormuz. The US government subsequently indicated that it was effectively ending the use of large-scale military force against Iran and was moving toward an attempt to stifle the country's economy through sanctions. On October 10, the US president did not rule out the possibility of further attacks against the Islamic Republic.
