According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple plans to release its artificial intelligence system called Apple Intelligence in China in December at the same time as the release of the iOS 27.3 update. This initial release will bring a set of basic AI capabilities to iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, but several newer features introduced this year will be absent.

The first version released in China is expected to include features that were introduced in 2024; These include writing tools, the ability to summarize notifications, making smart emojis or Genmoji, and the ability to remove unwanted objects from images.

However, the voice assistant Siri based on artificial intelligence or Siri AI, which has been redesigned using Google's Gemina models, will not be part of this offer. Also, the improved version of writing tools and Genmoji, which were introduced this year, Photo Expansion and Siri's Visual Intelligence mode in the camera section are also absent in this version. Bloomberg says that Apple executives are not very optimistic about the possibility of launching their new smart assistant in the Chinese market in the near future.

Even older feature sets will come with limitations. Image Playground and other built-in Apple image generation tools are removed from this package to comply with local laws and regulations, and some text generation features will work with limitations in certain applications.

Apple is aiming to launch these features in December after missing several previous timeframes. Apple had previously expected to release the service in May 2025, then by the end of that year and again in the spring of 2026, all while waiting for legal and regulatory approvals.

Apple's Intelligence system was registered for public use in China in July, but that preliminary approval didn't pave the way for a quick rollout to consumers. Recently, the company has held further talks with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. On September 29, Apple received licenses that allow recent iPhone models to support Apple Intelligence, along with Alibaba's Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang AI models.

Apple's localized platform uses regulatory and security shields developed in collaboration with Alibaba; including a regulatory filter that allows the Chinese government to approve continuous updates to AI models before release. In addition, Baidu also cooperates with Apple in search and Siri related functions. Earlier reports indicated that Apple has trained its own model for the Chinese market with the support of Alibaba.

Apple declined to comment on the plans. It should also be noted that this launch will take place in a market where mobile manufacturers such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and other brands have already provided their own artificial intelligence services to users.

Of course, China is not the only market that is still waiting for Apple's new smart assistant. The Siri AI assistant is still not available on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in the EU; However, most of this year's new Apple Intelligence features were released in this region in September. There is still no specific timetable for the approval and release of this voice assistant in the European Union.
