YouTube Music tags AI songs

YouTube Music tags songs with artificial intelligence. For this, the application combines information received from producers with its own artificial intelligence recognition tools.

YouTube announced that it is rolling out new labels for YouTube Music that will show listeners whether artificial intelligence played a significant role in the creation of a song. These tags are displayed directly in the music player so users have a clearer idea of what they're listening to without having to look at song descriptions or guess who made it.

This feature targets songs that are mainly made with artificial intelligence; Among the works in which productive models played a role in both songwriting and vocal production. Tapping on the label will bring up a menu with more information about how much artificial intelligence was involved in the creation of the song. YouTube has announced that these tags will eventually make their way to the company's main video platform.

AI songs on YouTube Music

This comes as generative artificial intelligence has made it easier to mass produce music. The challenge for streaming services is to help listeners distinguish works produced with the help of artificial intelligence from songs created entirely with this technology.

Instead of relying on artists and music distributors to identify AI-generated content, YouTube uses a combination of information disclosed by music partners and its own proprietary detection tools. Through supported metadata registration processes, partners of this platform can mark submitted songs with one of three labels: "fully produced by artificial intelligence", "partially produced by artificial intelligence" or "without the use of artificial intelligence".

This distinction is very important; Because an artist using artificial intelligence to help with part of the music production process is not the same as a completely automated song. The purpose of these tags is not to categorize all songs created with the help of artificial intelligence into one group, but to give listeners more information about the difference.

According to YouTube's help page, if partners do not provide information about the use of artificial intelligence, the platform may use other identifiers for recognition. If YouTube can identify AI-generated content in a song, it may label it as fully or partially AI-generated.
