The Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Expansion Pass adds backstories for the four other heroes the game was supposed to have.
But damn it will cost you
Oh, Nintendo secretly removed the Expansion Pass for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. The pass will add new content in several waves, the first of which is currently out.
Wave 1 is a bit anemic, but it's sure to please fans of the Three Houses with the addition of four legendary hero relics: Aradbehar's Spear, Emer's Ax, Failnaught's Bow, and the Creator's Sword. Perhaps Seth, the only man present in both Fortune's Weave and Three Houses, would offer a comment referring to previous users of these weapons. A flame lord can dream.
Waves 2 and 3 are where things get really interesting. Wave 2, which is estimated to arrive in holiday 2026, will add new costumes to the game that any of the Flame Lords or their companions can wear - the trailer shows Fabio's father in an outfit you wouldn't expect a man to wear. But I'm more interested in the fact that several of the game's gods will join you in the fight to save the world.
Fire Emblem is one of those rare games where the gods are real and actually walk among the people. And I remember, as Fortune's story unfolded in the beginning, I thought, if the world of the gods is threatened by one of their own, why put the onus on mortals to stop the evil? However, there never seems to be any kind of non-intervention pact in these games, and other stories of divine betrayal serve as an explanation for why other powerful deities don't get involved. And there is a mechanic in the game where you can grant you some of the power of the gods in exchange for showing sacrifice. So it's good to see that they will fight alongside you. The three new companions are Smyrnos, Jurah and Aurora (!!!) which should have huge implications for one of the Flame Lords which I won't spoil here.
Wave 3 appears to be the biggest update the game has announced so far. This one, which has a vague release date of 2027, adds stories for four major characters who aren't Flame Lords: Anatoly, Talimon, Bertrand, and Erchel. Before the release of Fortune's Weave, developers Intelligent Systems revealed that the game was originally going to have eight main characters, and you can see the effects of this decision in the game itself. In its opening minutes, Ashmel passes by eight statues as he walks towards a huge temple. Four were called Dagda Flame Lords, while the other four were just there, like they were supposed to matter somehow. It seems that the story content may have diverged from the paths originally intended for those characters.
But while I like the idea of more story, especially for Anatoly and Talmon, sheesh. The game is big enough. As one YouTube commenter says, "Relax, I'm not even done with my first route," this mode. The expansion pack is also somewhat expensive at $35, bringing the total cost of Fortune's Weave and all of its extra content to over $100. damn
