Today, the Indian police arrested the leaders of the protesting party in the recent unrest in this country after breaking the security barriers and entering a historic observatory in New Delhi.
According to Ambassador Arjan's report, quoted by Al-Mayadin, the Indian police arrested prominent leaders of the "Kukruch Janta" party known as "Cockroaches" on Tuesday. These people were arrested after breaking the security barriers to enter the historic Jantar Mantar observatory in New Delhi.
By chanting slogans, the detainees demanded the resignation of "Gyanish Kumar", the head of the Election Commission, due to the controversial reforms in the electoral lists.
Since the beginning of this month, the streets of India have witnessed almost daily protests organized by supporters of this party and opposition groups. Protesters are protesting reforms that critics say favor the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the other hand, the Election Commission denied any bias towards political parties and emphasized that voters whose names were mistakenly removed from the lists can re-register.
The Bharatiya Janata Party also accused its rivals of seeking to "undermine democracy" by unjustifiably questioning the legitimacy of the electoral process.
On Monday, thousands of people took part in a protest march organized by opposition groups. This action took place after the police thwarted the plans of the "Kukruch Janta" party to hold demonstrations at the beginning of the week and arrested thousands of demonstrators, including the leaders of this party.
In line with the security measures, the New Delhi Police announced that the Jantar Mantar observatory located in the commercial center of the capital is no longer a permitted place for protests and three alternative places have been designated for demonstrations.
