The head coach of the national weightlifting team said: The composition of the women's national weightlifting team for the China World Championships will be finalized next week, and our main goal is to qualify for the Los Angeles Olympics.
Elham Hosseini, the head coach of the women's national weightlifting team, in a conversation with Mehr reporter, said about the conditions of the national weightlifting team to participate in the China World Championships: The World Championships is the beginning of the Olympic cycle, and according to the rules that are considered for obtaining a quota, there are 6 competitions included in the first period, and the athletes in the Olympic cycle must participate in at least three competitions. In the following year, four competitions are planned, and the athletes must participate in at least two competitions.
He added: In the end, the average records of five competitions are calculated and the best weightlifters of each weight are placed on the path of winning the Olympic quota. Based on this, we must have a detailed plan for the participation of athletes in various competitions so that while maintaining their preparation, their chances of continuing to participate in the Olympic cycle will not be lost.
The head coach of the women's national weightlifting team, referring to the division of national athletes to participate in the upcoming competitions, said: Considering that our children weighed in Tashkent and participated in the Asian Games, we decided to divide the athletes for different competitions. Some of the children are going to participate in the China competition and some others in the Qatar Cup. Mehsa Beheshti has participated in two consecutive competitions, and due to the necessity of maintaining this athlete's capacity and preventing injuries, we have decided that he will weigh in the Qatar Cup and will not be sent to the World Cup. We will make decisions about other national teams according to record conditions and tournament schedule.
Hosseini also said about the final composition of the national team to participate in the world competition: Considering the record conditions of the athletes, we will probably send two to three members of the national team to the world competition, and other athletes who are not participating in this competition, will weigh in other competitions so that they can remain in the cycle of earning the Olympic quota. The lineup is almost certain and will be announced by next week. Of course, Rehane Karimi is one of the athletes sent to the world championships.
The head coach of the national women's weightlifting team said: World competitions have different conditions. This competition is the first world competition in the cycle of obtaining the Olympic quota, and due to the change in the number of weights, the competition in some categories will be very intense. Previously, the world championships were held in 10 weights, but now the number of weights has been reduced, which has made more weightlifters compete in the remaining categories.
Referring to the crowding of some weights in the world championships, he said: In some weights, especially in the weight of 77 kg, there are about 80 athletes in the list. This shows that different countries have planned for these competitions and in some weights they participate with two weightlifters. Therefore, the competition for the Olympic quota is very tough and the level of competition is different from many previous competitions.
Referring to the presence of world-renowned weightlifters in the upcoming competitions, Hosseini clarified: an important part of our competitors are children in Asia; including China and North Korea. In the world championships, the best weightlifters of different countries will be added to this group, and naturally we will have a very close and difficult competition.
He continued: However, we have tried to mentally prepare the athletes to participate in high-level competitions. They should know that they will face strong competitors in such competitions and they need to be ready to participate at this level. By participating in high-level competitions, weightlifters gain more experience and can set good records. Our main goal is to get an Olympic quota for both the women's and men's divisions, and with proper planning, continue this path until the Los Angeles Olympics. After that, we hope to be able to try to win an Olympic medal.
Hosseini noted: Thank God, we managed to win two bronze medals in the Asian Games, but to continue this process, we must give the athletes a chance. Mehsa Beheshti and other children who are in the camp are still teenagers. Participation in high-level competitions gradually shows their real capacity and helps them to know their position better. I think that with the time we have until the end of the Olympic quota, we can gradually see the brilliance of Iranian female weightlifters. To achieve this goal, we must be patient and let the planning and support show their results.
