After about 9 years of waiting, Tesla unveiled the new generation of sports car Roadster; A car equipped with an air intake system to stick to surfaces and cold gas engines with SpaceX technology. Elon Musk says that the production of this car will start in 2028. Tesla has set a reservation fee of $250,000 for the version equipped with advanced propulsion system.

At the unveiling ceremony at the SpaceX test site in Texas, Tesla illustrated the capabilities of the new Roadster with extraordinary displays. The car went up the curved ramp and came to a stop part way, upside down. Then it jumped out from the top of the ramp, spun in the air and landed gently on the ground with the help of its engines.

In another part of the show, the Roadster passed several Tesla cars with the help of the same system. However, the displayed movements were pre-programmed and do not represent the performance of the autonomous vehicle in real conditions.

Tesla says the new Roadster is equipped with a multi-mode suction system that uses fans and seals under the car to remove air from the space under the body. This process creates suction and allows the car to stick upside down to the ramp surface even when stopped.

For jumping and landing, the car uses attitude control engines and rear-mounted engines. This system is made with technology developed in SpaceX and uses cold-gas thrusters that work with compressed air.

Tesla has also announced that these engines use all-electric actuators and can precisely adjust thrust. This system allows for very fast movement corrections.

Tesla will release the new Roadster in three versions: Performance, Thrust and Rocket. These versions differ from each other in terms of equipment and movement capabilities.

The Performance version is designed for road use and has two seats. This model is equipped with a multi-mode suction system and active aerodynamics. To reserve it, customers must first pay $5,000 and pay another $45,000 within 10 days at most; Therefore, the total amount of the initial reservation reaches $50,000.

The Thrust version also has two seats, but the rear-mounted cold gas engines allow it to reach 97 km/h from standstill in less than a second. This version is introduced for use on the track and provides buyers with the suction system and accelerator engines.

To reserve the Thrust version, customers must pay a total of $250,000. This includes the $5,000 upfront cost and $45,000 payment for the base version, plus an additional $245,000 for the Thrust package.

The Rocket version has the highest level of equipment and seats only one passenger instead of two. This model is equipped with 10 cold gas engines in different parts of the body and Tesla introduces it as the version with full flight system. The purchase of this version is only possible by invitation of the company.

Tesla has announced a range of 483 kilometers for all three versions. The maximum speed of the Rocket version will be around 370 km/h.

Compared to the model that Tesla introduced in 2017, the new Roadster has significant changes in appearance. The white body of the car is designed with angular lines and its appearance is similar to sports cars like Lamborghini.

Tesla has announced that the design of the car was inspired by the SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft and the F-35 fighter. The company also explained that the design language of its products has changed since the introduction of the previous Roadster, and new products such as Cybertruck, Cybercube, and Optimus humanoid robot have played a role in this process.

During the unveiling ceremony, Optimus robot was also in the driver's seat of the car; However, its presence was part of the show and the car had pre-planned its movements.

Tesla first unveiled the second generation Roadster in November 2017 at the end of the electric truck introduction ceremony. The company had promised at that time that the car would reach customers in 2020, but the launch time was postponed many times.

In 2018, Elon Musk talked about the possibility of using small rocket engines in this car. He said that these equipments can improve acceleration, maximum speed, braking and cornering performance of the car and even provide the possibility of flight.

However, the Roadster project became a lower priority in the following years, and Tesla changed its launch schedule several times. Musk postponed the previous promises at various times in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024. The unveiling schedule in 2026 was originally set for October 1st, but Tesla postponed the ceremony to October 15th due to the forecast of unfavorable weather conditions.

Musk now says production of the new roadster will begin in 2028. However, this car has not yet reached the production stage and Tesla's new promise must remain waiting for fulfillment.
