Lavrov: Zelensky Sets Unacceptable Conditions for Holding Elections
According to Russia's foreign minister, Volodymyr Zelensky has already stated explicitly that he has no interest in elections
Baku, October 15. /TASS/. Volodymyr Zelensky does not want elections. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated: This is evident from the unacceptable conditions he has considered for holding them.
"Mr. Zelensky has already made it clear that he is not interested in the elections because he has set conditions that are clearly unacceptable," the senior diplomat told reporters after attending the 7th Conference on Engagement and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit in Baku.
"We are not speculating," Lavrov said when asked if Moscow was ready to make concessions if Ukraine held presidential elections.
At the same time, the foreign minister warned: "There will be no truce to bring him [Zelensky] back to his senses and pumping his weapon."
Zelensky's presidential term officially ended on May 20, 2024. However, Kiev did not hold the next election, claiming it was impossible until the end of martial law.
On October 10, US President Donald Trump announced that Zelensky should call an election and that he could end the conflict in Ukraine and have already made several peace agreements.
