Citroën 2CV electric, inspired by its iconic and old model, has been unveiled as an economical electric car to be launched in 2028 with a price of around €15,000.
The new generation Citroën 2CV, whose concept was unveiled recently, promises to bring the spirit of simplicity and affordability of the original model to the age of electric cars. This car is not only a reminder of Citroen's proud past, but also aims to meet the needs of modern transportation with a focus on accessibility and sustainability.
return a symbol; Electric Citroen 2CV with a price target of 15,000 euros
Citroen unveiled the electric Citroen 2CV concept as a close preview of its production version, which is set to be one of the cheapest electric cars on the market by 2028. Targeting a price tag of around €15,000 (approx. £12,750), this electric car could become one of the most affordable options for different segments of society.
Achieving this ambitious pricing is due to the development of a completely new and dedicated platform for electric vehicles, which will be distinct from Stellantis' existing Smart Car and STLA One platforms, and is designed to take advantage of the new small electric vehicle regulations in the European Union.

technical specifications and dimensions; Focus on lightness and efficiency
The technical specifications of Citroen 2CV Electric also focus on simplicity and efficiency. Citroen has considered a weight of about one ton for this car, which makes it one of the lightest electric cars on the market. This low weight promises to use a smaller battery and thus lower costs. For comparison, the new e-C3 model uses a 30 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack that offers a range of about 209 kilometers. At 3.76 meters long, the Citroën 2CV Electric is even shorter than the original produced in 1948, emphasizing its urban and compact nature.
design philosophy; Inspiration from the past for the future
Antoine Guyot-Dron, chief designer of the 2CV project, identified the car's dimensions as one of the biggest considerations during its two-year development. He emphasized that Citroën had tried not to give the Citroën 2CV an aggressive look, and the positioning of the prominent headlights was a particular challenge that was solved with the help of Gilles Vidal, the new head of European design at Stlantis. Vidal, who previously oversaw the revival of the Renault 4 and Twingo models, has played an important role in shaping the "friendly" face of this electric car. Despite numerous changes throughout the design process, the overall form and silhouette of the 2CV, which earned it nicknames such as the "Tin Snail" or the "Duck," remained the same.
The interior design was a bigger challenge, as the original TPV and 2CV models had no special interior design, and some 1930s prototypes even lacked dashboards and speedometers. However, the new Citroën 2CV has been modernized with a small touchscreen display, but has numerous references to the original model and other popular Citroën cars of the past. The seats are bench seats in yellow checkered fabric, and the gear lever known as the "umbrella handle" has been redesigned to match the EV's PRND layout.
The single-spoke steering wheel and mushroom-shaped pedals are reminiscent of the early 2CV, DS and SM models. The removable radio is also designed to be used as a Bluetooth speaker during a picnic. "Our goal was to make you feel like you're experiencing a ray of sunlight when you get into the car," said Color, Material and Trim Designer Madeleine Ternisin. A fabric roof that must be manually opened or closed when the car is stopped is another retro feature that will make its way to the production version.

Citroen 2CV heritage; From TPV to modern times
The history of the 2CV goes back to the TPV project; A small car that was designed to transport French villagers at an affordable price after Citroen went bankrupt in 1934 and was bought by Michelin. It was designed to carry two farmers with 50 kg of potatoes or a barrel of wine, at a speed of 60 km/h and a fuel consumption of 3 liters per 100 km, and it even had to be able to carry a basket of eggs without breaking over a plowed field. The TPV was ready in 1939, but with the outbreak of World War II, its launch was delayed. The production version of the Citroen 2CV was shown at the Paris Motor Show in 1948. Its production began in 1949 and continued until 1990, when a total of more than 5 million units were sold, making it one of the most popular cars in history.
