The actors first co-starred in the 1999 blockbuster The Mummy, which follows a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. A reboot of a classic Universal feature, it spawned two sequels, The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008, as well as the spin-off The Scorpion King with Dwayne Johnson in 2002. Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette are directing the fourth season of the decades-old action franchise from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillette are best known for 2019's Ready or Not and Paramount's 2022 revival of the Scream franchise, while Coggshall's credits include The Family Plot and Orphan: The First Kill.

Sean Daniel, who has worked on the last five films in the franchise, including the 2017 reboot with Tom Cruise, will produce the quartet. (This attempt to revive the property was a critical and commercial disaster, effectively ending the studio's ambitions to create a darkly interconnected universe.)

Other producers include William Schrock, James Vanderbilt and Paul Niinstein of Project X Entertainment and Clayton Townsend. Fraser and Humanmind, Jason F. Brown will serve as executive producer of "The Mummy: Book of the Dead."
