Zack Kerger's Resident Evil opened last month to critical acclaim, with more than one reviewer calling it "the best video game movie ever." Another review came out today, from none other than Hideo Kojima, and it's (apparently) glowing.

Kojima tweeted on Oct. 12: "I wasn't particularly interested at first, but since it's Zack Kerger's last movie, I went to see Resident Evil."

Right from the start, it hits you with music reminiscent of 'The Thing'. From there, it's a relentless barrage of classic horror techniques, terrifying situations and jump scares that never let up until the end.

That's why I said apparently above. Can I detect a bit of admiration behind the head? Calling it a "relentless barrage" isn't necessarily a compliment, saying that a director uses "classic horror techniques" could be a way of saying it's unoriginal, and noting that there are "jump scares" throughout might indicate that this isn't a sophisticated film.

Or, maybe I'm coloring Kojima's comments with my own paranoia that relentlessly scrutinizes every compliment I get for potential criticism. You be the judge

"Best Video Game Movie" Ever? The first reviews of Zack Kerger's Resident Evil adaptation are absolutely glowing

Resident Evil is the best video game movie because Brian is evil

Zack Kerger admits that "I can't make Leon better," which is why he's using the original characters for the next Resident Evil movie.

Anyway, here's the real meat of Kojima's little review:

Kojima continued: "It's not a movie adaptation of Resident Evil. It's a movie about the experience of playing Resident Evil, controller in hand." "It reminded me of how I felt when I first played Resident Evil on the PlayStation back in 1996. I was just like Brian in the movie. I would finish the game and scream 'F***!'" over and over again lol"

Preach This movie was a lot of fun because it really felt like you were watching someone play the game, as Brian dealt with the horrors he encountered the same way we all face Resi: by screaming, running, and often showing terrible aim. As Ellie observed, Resident Evil is the best because Brian is bad.

I've embedded Kodge's tweet below, and you should check it out because it includes an image of the Japanese Resident Evil movie poster. It's rad.

Chris started playing PC games in the 1980s, started writing about them in the early 2000s, and (finally) started getting paid to write about them in the late 2000s. After a few years as a casual freelancer, PC Gamer hired him in 2014, probably so he wouldn't email them asking for more work. Chris has a love-hate relationship with survival games and an unhealthy fascination with the inner lives of NPCs. He's also a fan of unexpected simulation games, mods, and skipping stories in RPGs in order to create his own story.

Zack Karger had to tone down the jokes in his upcoming Resident Evil movie because test screeners 'thought it was too funny'

Zack Kerger may have made the best Resident Evil movie yet, but a group of fans aren't happy about it.

Ben Affleck lost 3 years to Starcraft, has bravely strong opinions, and mourns RTS as a genre, so there's a good chance he'll be one of our regular commenters.

Cyberpunk 2077 is becoming a movie, although we've already gotten a great cyberpunk movie starring Keanu Reeves as a man named Johnny.

The crit role of the last episode of D&D was so stressful that I found myself making a new sound out of my mouth

After a series of disasters where no one seems to be able to go well, I really don't know who is going to leave the next episode of Critical Role.

Kerger's Resident Evil is currently RE's third highest-grossing film with over $100 million at the domestic box office in less than 2 weeks.
