The proud test of nurses in war
Young nurses in the war showed that they adhere to professional ethics despite the economic and psychological pressures, but their livelihood problems should not be ignored. Tariffs for nursing services have been a positive measure, but inflation has always outstripped the increase in wages; Nurses should have at least an average life. If conditions improve, many who are thinking of emigrating will stay in the country.

According to Ambassador Arjan's report, citing Ambassador Arjan, war was not just the sound of explosions and sirens for nurses; It was a tough test between saving one's own life and saving others; Nurses who held babies under the shadow of rockets, took patients to safe areas, and stayed by the patient's bedside even when their own children were alone at home.
Manijeh Ahani, Educational Supervisor of Hakim Children's Hospital and Maryam Amini, Superintendent of Moheb Kausar Hospital, spoke about the bitter and sweet experiences of the war days; The days that, according to them, showed a different manifestation of sacrifice and commitment of Iranian nurses.
Manijeh Ahani, educational supervisor of Hakim Children's Hospital: Each of the days of the war that I remember is a scene of love and sacrifice; From the very first day when a piece of drone warhead hit Hakim Hospital, we had to transfer babies from hospitals at risk for hours. Our hospital was located in the 18th district of Tehran and it was less likely to accept war wounded, but it became a center for accepting patients from hospitals in crisis. Sometimes we had to provide the conditions for the transfer of sick babies and children in the shortest possible time.
When Arash Hospital was hit, we had to send troops familiar with the special care of babies to transport the patients. I was worried that my colleagues would go to the hospital where there was a possibility of being hit by another missile. Several times I decided to ride the ambulance myself, but they volunteered without hesitation and were at Arash hospital for about 3 hours. We were also worried about the transfer of babies to Bharlo Hospital; Because there was a possibility of attacking the railway lines; We transferred 6 babies from Bharlu. From those days, I remember the commitment of nurses who did not think about losing their lives.
In university we learn about crisis management, but the reality of war is different from what we read in books. When panicked families rush to evacuate patients, the situation becomes very difficult to manage. The first time the drone hit the hospital, patients in the intensive care unit were connected to artificial respiration and could not be transported. 2 of my colleagues volunteered to stay with them. Many nurses had left their children at home and were taking care of sick children under the bombardment. This sacrifice cannot be valued by any measure.
Maryam Amini, head of Moheb Kausar Hospital: The war was the first experience of crisis for many young nurses, especially in the 70s, but they filled shifts voluntarily. For us, one of the most difficult nights in the 12-day war happened. Around midnight, there was a strong explosion and the order was issued to transfer the patients of the lower floors to a safe place. At the same time, the pregnant mother arrived at the hospital from Alborz, where several other centers did not accept her. It was an emergency and we decided to give birth. In the middle of the delivery, the news arrived that a missile hit the hospital's oxygen tank and there is a possibility of an explosion; The moment the baby was born, the crisis code was announced. I wrapped him in a blanket and took him to the park near the hospital. The lights were off and I had to revive the baby in the dark. It took several minutes for her to cry. His mother was also taken to the park. When he regained consciousness, he thought he was in heaven; Because he did not expect to open his eyes under the trees of the park.
The strange events of that night became the basis for the movie "Midnight" and changed the course of my life. I had been admitted to a university in England to continue my studies and I was supposed to go to a neighboring country to get a visa and immigrate in September 1404. But the events of that night and the moments I spent with that baby changed my mind and I chose to stay. Many people said I made a mistake, but I don't regret it. I think the war made some other nurses reconsider their decision to emigrate.
Nursing is tied to sacrifice and resilience, but this does not mean that nurses do not need economic support. In some countries, the economic issues of nurses are so secure that they have no needs and concerns except to serve patients. Positive measures have been taken in Iran, but bigger steps need to be taken. The capital of a country is its young force, but we see the migration of nurses to European countries, which are honestly elite forces. It is not good that our universities teach nursing with great difficulty, but because they are not well supported, they migrate, and it is a pity that some of our best nurses end up in countries like Germany and Switzerland. While their hearts are always with Iran.
