Remake Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
The first hands-on previews for the Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have been released, along with a brand new trailer. While much of what people have been playing is a rehash of the early parts of the game that were first revealed on Nintendo Direct last month, the multi-hour sessions also allowed players to get off the beaten path and explore some of the nuances in this new version of the Nintendo 64 classic. Here are five additional details we just learned about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
Link starter wallet can now hold 200 rupees
In the original game, initially you kept only Rs.99. Per IGN, you now start with a wallet that can hold twice as much. This was previously a player-unlocked upgrade that was unlocked for converting 10 Gold Skulltula Tokens to the Cursed Family in Kakariko Village. It is unclear what the new award will be instead.
IGN also notes that the Forest Temple has undergone significant renovations in some areas. This includes everything from changes to the way certain puzzles work to decorative revamps such as colored motifs for each different section of the dungeon to more clearly indicate which section you're in. A mini-boss fight replaces a bottomless pit with a pool of acid. Nintendo also stuck the elevator shaft in one area to minimize some of the recoil I can only guess how extensive the revisions are in more complex dungeons like the water temple.
There is now a fifth bottle for Link to find
The N64 game only had four bottles. Getting the last item requires the link to hunt down 10 large Poes throughout Hyrule Field. A Nintendo representative confirmed to IGN that a fifth space on the inventory screen is actually for an extra bottle. It remains to be seen if players will unlock it during normal gameplay or if there is now a new puzzle or mini-challenge for them to complete.
There is a new area in the game where you can replay boss fights
The game is called The Hall of Fallen Foes and it shows Link all the enemies he has defeated in the game. As depicted in a new teaser trailer, Kaepora Gaebora's giant owl appears to be carrying the hero of time back and forth from the new location. Players can rematch against bosses like Dodongo and Shadow Link. It's unclear if there will be additional rewards to unlock, but each fight has a time trial counter that shows you how quickly you completed it.
Everyone is much more talkative, especially Navi
Former Giant Bomb writer Jeff Gerstman uploaded his B-roll footage from the event, which, among other things, shows how many times Navi stops Link to tell him about the world or just talk through word bubbles during the normal course of exploration. For example, the first time you encounter a Peahat larva in Hyrule Field, the Navi will freeze the game and walk through it. A little dump about the monster. Other previewers have confirmed that some of the game's NPCs have a little more flavor in the dialogue and extra lines that provide more world-building than the original game. I'm excited to trick my six-year-old into practicing his reading like this.
