Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Of Breaking Deluxe Edition Fans Accuse After FF7 DLC Leak: 'Paying $100 For This Sh*t, I Guess I Learned My Lesson'

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a great racing game that has a lot of support after launch. Unfortunately, the balance between bombarding players with new content and how to monetize it hasn't been as impressive. Sega recently released a collaboration with Final Fantasy VII and the rest of its Year 2 DLC. The only problem is that fans who shelled out $100 for the Deluxe Edition will have to pay extra to get access to it.
The game's second year DLC roadmap begins on November 3rd and will be previewed this weekend. It includes the following crossovers: Godzilla, Evangelion, Sanrio Virtual Puroland, Segaland, Midgar Pack, and Reload Revival Royale. Each pack is expected to add new stages and character skins and will cost players $40 in total. Cloud Race vs. Sonic vs. Spongebob? Sounds neat! Here's why some existing players feel stuck.
This goes back to a tweet that Sega posted ahead of the June 2025 release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Read it (via TheGamer). "This version includes: base game, Season Pass, all future paid downloadable content, bonus Sonic Prime characters." It's this "all future paid downloadable content" that's got Sega in hot water, driving their latest promotional marketing for the Year 2 DLC to get the community on X.
"All future DLC" is very different from the first year's DLC, even if that's what some people might expect based on recent industry practices. "I paid $100 for this, I guess I learned my lesson," one player wrote on Reddit. "Whether intentional or accidental, these DLC rugs have become increasingly common as online games become the launch pad for DLC mini-storefronts. They're especially common in fighting games, when certain types of content are promised at launch as part of an early development license, only for a stage here or a character there to somehow get lost along the way.

Adding insult to injury is that some players now feel that many of the crossover characters and stages of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds have been saved for paid DLC. One fan wrote on the PS5 Reddit sub: “It still pisses me off that the whole point of this game was to be a crossover between different features, but the game only came out with voice characters and no crossover. "They slowly started adding Sega, but they charged extra for anything that wasn't already a Sega character."
We'll see if Sega somehow uses the right marshals. CrossWorlds DLC packs are usually $6 and players have plenty of time to decide whether to buy them. While the Godzilla package arrives in early November, Evangelion doesn't arrive until early 2027. The timing of Final Fantasy VII is still TBD.
