The NFL's all-time leading rusher, Hall of Famer and host of the Dallas Cowboys' streak that won three Super Bowls in the '90s, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his last Super Bowl win — which happens to be the last time the Cowboys won it all — as well as the 20th anniversary of his 20th victory in the Reality A-Pet Games. stars." Smith, 57, has partnered with AT&T, the show's official voting partner, to connect with fans and revisit her time on the carpet through a series of social videos. "It's so cool because AT&T has done a great job connecting people with loved ones, and this show is all about people connecting with the moments that move us," Smith tells Variety. Popular in Variety

He also appeared on Super Bowl Night, roasting his previous winner on the October 13 episode alongside fellow DWTS alums/former NFL players DeMarcus Ware, Donald Driver and Danny Amendola.

"I was one of the people who probably inspired them to be on the show, so it was cool to see Jerry Rice and I helping other athletes and showing other talents outside of sports to help break the code," Smith offers.

Smith spoke to Variety about everything from "Dancing with the Stars" to the state of the Dallas Cowboys under Jerry Jones not respecting the NFL's domestic violence policy and running backs enough.

It was cool, all I wanted to do was be me and not try to be anything else. Most people don't realize that running a football is almost like dancing - a portrait in motion. As a running back, I float in and out of the defense and run with a style and flow that has grace, but also power, intensity and grace, and dancing can be the same. If you dance a paso doble, there's this grace, power, intensity and grace, which is all I had on the football field. Mentally it is correlated, but the technique requires something completely different. And athletes are used to training, preparing and going on the field, so it's a natural fit.

I understand and I can let my mind go there! But I have family to attend to, so for me dancing was strictly dancing. However, the communication between me and my partner should be clear. What we did in the beginning—and this is what I loved about dancing with Cheryl [Burke]—we set boundaries before we even got there, and she was respectful and I was respectful. I knew I had to create a relationship with him that felt real—like the actors. So, when it came to the dance floor, my partner and I were connected and nothing outside of that routine and that dance floor mattered at that time.

I had to dust a lot! It was fun. We had to learn the routine and pick it up fairly quickly. It took a few tries, but when you get it, you'll get it.

Well, I'd say the undefeated teams look pretty good right now - the 49ers... are the Bills undefeated? They look good too. And Kansas City looks pretty good. Mahomes now has a real run that everyone has to respect, and that's a big difference.

Do you know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants. Why did you let go of your best player?! For a quarterback [Daniel Jones] that you got rid of anyway. This is the disrespect you are talking about. Even with Kenneth Walker III, they went with Sam Darnold at fullback and let Kenneth Walker III run. And Kenneth Walker III went to the right team with head coach Andy Reid, a great offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy, Patrick Mahomes and a very competitive team. Patrick Maumes is the best quarterback in the National Football League right now. The running game in Kansas City is a lot better than people give it credit for.

The NFL wants players to be very professional and consistent, and I think some of the rules — some of the pass interference calls, the phantom calls and the tick-tock stuff — need to be toned down and curbed. It's proven when you see a guy pull up his shirt or dig into their pads, but some of these things are light. They check everything else, so why can't they check interference calls?

Why is the topic controversial? She's there to support her husband and doesn't care about that other stuff, but the networks do. Networks expose everything because of his personality. He's not looking for the damn camera! She tries to be Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's wife and tries to enjoy life. He's not going, "Put me in front of the camera! I'm here!" Most stars aren't even like that. The media needs something to talk about, it's fresh and new and he's a big star. do i like it no Can I do anything about it? no Can he do anything about it? no All he can do is not show up to games, and who wants to do that? He's just trying to be himself. This is what losing your anonymity really means - people will follow you.

This should not be a policy. This is poor policy. Here's why it's a poor policy: girlfriends change. Wives change sometimes, but not as much as girlfriends. And if you're going to do it for three [people], you should do it for everybody—not just a select few—and that's where the hypocrisy of that scenario comes in for me. Plus, this in itself has no place in the game in practice. There is no way in the world Jimmy Johnson would allow that! And finally, I don't think the players want either, because it's their job! This is no place for flirting and flirting! You are there to work. Get your social media content afterwards

First of all, I'm not even talking about what Jerry has to do. There is a lot to unpack in your question. As for why it took so long, there was a blueprint that showed us how to build a franchise.

All of that and I think the Cowboys are trying to figure it out. Jimmy did a great job of using all the draft picks in the Herschel Walker trade, but he also had systems where he dealt with talent. The offensive system under Noor Turner in 1991 made us a better football team. We went from 7-9 to 11-5 and into the playoffs, then from that point on we just went downhill. Jerry and them have actually been trying to build the team, and that's why you saw the Micah Parsons trade and the resources they got out of it. Right now, some of that hasn't panned out, as the defense and secondary need to get much better and the team needs more depth. In the 90s we had depth. Our team was so deep that no one could mess with us. We could rotate in the second line of defense and nobody could mess it up. And offensively, we were so good and balanced that you have to pick your own poison.

do you know what I think he's better than your Jets quarterback [Geno Smith] right now!

Well, let's get started with it! But who else are you going to put there? no one Others are already busy. He is the best chance we have and he is the best chance we have to win. He gets 30 points! And then our defense gives up 30 points. So, what are we talking about? The glass is half full and we ask Doc to fill the rest.

Oh, I know it is him! But when they win, he'll get all the credit. I mean, he didn't look good last night [against the Buccaneers], but nobody looked good. And the cowboys went to Brazil! They went to Brazil, then came back to play the Texans in a very emotional game, used up all their energy and then played on Thursday.

I don't know what you are talking about! The White House in DC?

I don't know what you are talking about! I neither confirm nor deny!

Yes, I think it is possible. All records are made to be broken. And people may not realize this, but Derrick Henry broke my public high school rushing record, so there's no doubt in my mind that he's capable of doing it. History is about longevity and consistency, and he had both. He takes care of his body, is a big man and runs well. He just has to get tired of chasing it, and I don't think he's tired of chasing it right now. He only ran 100 yards the night before. As long as they give him the ball, he'll be fine.

Well, I've never participated in any of that. I was one of those kids who never got suspended because I had a certain level of discipline and focus. Does the punishment fit the crime? i don't know Both are bad. I think the physical aspect of the other person is even worse because it's one thing to do something for yourself and another to do something with someone else. Physical things should be punished more severely.

I hear what you're saying. It's not weird, and it's pretty clear: The league wants to upgrade the quarterback position. The quarterback is the franchise player and that is the mindset of every owner and every team. This is the most marquee position on the football field, they touch the ball and attack more than any other player. Having said that, just because it's the situation doesn't mean that guy is the guy. If you have Saquon Barkley or Jahmir Gibbs or Bejean Robinson in there — right now, some running backs are better than the quarterbacks they have.

If you have Patrick Mahomes under center, that's one thing. There is only one Patrick Mahomes. The problem is that they are not all the same, and the league wants to put all quarterbacks in the same category, but they don't. They play in the same position, but they are not in the same ranking. Mahomes is way ahead of most other quarterbacks. So they draft -- whether it's Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert, Jackson Dart or whoever these guys are -- to be the franchise player, and then build everything around the franchise player, but a lot of these guys don't act like franchise players. Aside from Brock Purdy, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, who else is playing like a franchise player? I thought Joe Barrow was coming, but he hasn't crossed that threshold, and yet people still treat him like "cool Joe." At the end of the day, it's about performance.

No man they already protect these boys enough. They hardly fight!

i do Even when I was practicing for "Dancing with the Stars," my big toe hurt. I sprained my big toe my last year of football with the Cardinals, and going to the dance floor reminds me of that.

I'm never going to say never, but I don't think I'll ever get a chance to coach the Cowboys. I think I want to coach at the University of Florida or Texas A&M. That would be great.
