Details of Persian Leopard Sighting in Bandpey, Noshahr

The head of the Noshahr Environmental Protection Office announced the presence of a Persian leopard in this province.

Mehdi Kiakhairti, head of the Nowshahr Environmental Protection Department, in a conversation with Ambassador Arjan's reporter, referring to the history of leopard sightings in this area, said: the area in question has already witnessed numerous reports and sightings of leopards.

He stated that due to the quality of the recorded images, it is not possible to accurately determine the age and gender of this leopard, adding: Based on the available images, this animal is an adult and not a cub. However, its gender is unknown.

Referring to the area of about 220,000 hectares of Nowshahr area, Kiakhirti said: There is no accurate and reliable statistics on the number of leopards in this area and it is not possible to announce a specific number.

The head of the Nowshahr Environmental Protection Department stated that the Iranian leopard is one of the endangered species and added: the presence of wildlife in villages adjacent to natural habitats is not far from expected, and the proximity of villages to habitats and activities such as animal husbandry can provide the basis for conflicts between humans and wildlife.

He also said about the protection measures: wildlife care is done continuously in the city and after receiving such reports, the care measures will be intensified. In this context, we use the capacity of environmental assistants and communication with the natives of the region to better manage the conditions and reduce the conflict between people and wildlife.

The environment asked people to keep a safe distance from this animal, refrain from approaching it for filming, chasing or provoking it, and inform the environmental officers of any re-sightings.
