Ministry of Health warns of the harms of yellow psychology

The Director General of Mental Health at the Ministry of Health said: Grand promises, guaranteed and short-term cures, and the sale of expensive packages are a market-driven approach to mental health rather than one based on the science of psychology.

The Director General of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health said: Big promises, guaranteed and short-term treatments and the sale of expensive packages are more of a market approach to mental health than they are based on psychological science.

In a conversation with Mehr reporter, Mohammadreza Shalbafan, about the psychological damage of yellow and the activities of people without specialized qualifications in the cyberspace, said: If we are faced with measures that offer big and exaggerated claims, short-term results and guaranteed treatments to people, we should know that even if some scientific principles are followed to some extent along with these claims, such an approach cannot be considered a scientific process.

Emphasizing that improving mental health requires follow-up and practice, he added: People should know that interventions that can help improve mental health usually require follow-up, continuity and participation of the people themselves. It is also not possible to roll a single version for everyone; Because the psychological conditions and needs of people are different from each other.

General mental health advice is not a substitute for specialist treatment

The Director General of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health stated, referring to the general recommendations for maintaining mental health in crisis situations: For example, in crisis situations, we recommend that people maintain their normal routine as much as possible, have a regular sleep and wake schedule, and include physical activity and regular exercise in their daily schedule.

Shalbafan continued: Also, some stress management techniques and skills are taught to people so that they can better deal with difficult situations and psychological pressures.

He emphasized: However, all these recommendations are preventive in nature and their purpose is to help maintain mental health and reduce possible injuries. If a person suffers from a mental disorder or problem, it is necessary to refer to the relevant specialists to receive specialized treatment and general recommendations should not replace professional treatment.

Expensive mental health packages; Marketing instead of a scientific approach

The Director General of Mental Health of the Ministry of Health further pointed to the provision of some expensive services and packages in the field of mental health and pointed out: In many cases, the provision of expensive packages is more similar to the marketing of health than it is based on scientific principles.

Shalbafan emphasized the need for people to be aware of the difference between mental health scientific interventions and advertising claims and reminded: People should make decisions more carefully when faced with exaggerated and guaranteed promises about the treatment of mental problems and follow the path of specialized treatment in case of a disorder.
