Former NYPD Lt. Darrin Porcher is speaking out about sanctuary city policies after the arrest of two undocumented immigrants accused of stabbing and robbing an off-duty detective in the Bronx.
The NYPD detective who survived a robbery in which two undocumented immigrants stabbed him seven times in the Bronx is expected to hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday to discuss his recovery.
According to the NYPD, Jose Mercedes, a 33-year-old detective with 10 years experience, was cleaning the trunk of his car when two men attacked him from behind. Despite his injuries, he chased after them before they sped away on an electric bike.
The suspects, identified as D'Angelo Caraballo, 25, and Sneider Mejia, 24, allegedly fled to Massachusetts, where they were later arrested in a basement hideout. They are being held without bail and are expected to face attempted murder charges when extradited to New York.

As Mercedes recovers from her injuries, the city is reeling from an unrelated ICE shooting that critics say could have been prevented if local leaders had abandoned sanctuary policies in favor of public safety.

Although the NYPD was not involved in the case, critics seized on the incident to undercut a special unit trained for crowd control and parade security, Vallong said.
He said: "Despite the fact that the strategic response group was not involved in this incident or its consequences in any way, calls were made to disband.
