2026 Nobel Laureate's Scathing Attack on Trump / Will Netanyahu Finally Stand Trial?
Navi Pillay Calls US Sanctions on the ICC Illegal, Reveals Trump's Revenge After Losing the Nobel Prize.
Condemning US sanctions against the International Criminal Court, Navi Pillay, winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, emphasized that Donald Trump needs to learn the principles of international law and that Benjamin Netanyahu will be tried in the future.
Navi Pillai, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the former head of the organization's independent investigation committee on Gaza, on Wednesday called the US sanctions against the International Criminal Court "illegal" and criticized Washington's approach towards the institution.
In a conversation with Ambassador Arjan, Pillai said that the announcement of US sanctions only a few hours after the announcement of the awarding of the Nobel Prize to him was not a coincidence, and he considered this action as a reaction to not awarding the prize to Trump.
He said in a message to the President of the United States: "Summon your legal advisors to explain to you what international law is." Pillai also emphasized that it is illegal to interfere in the activities of an independent international court.
The United States on Friday announced sanctions against the International Criminal Court that target the day-to-day operations of the body, including its technology and banking sectors. These sanctions will take effect in six months.
Washington threatened to completely abolish the International Criminal Court after issuing an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu for a case related to the Gaza war.
Referring to the support of previous US administrations for the arrest warrant of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pillai said that Washington's different treatment of judicial cases is an example of double standards. He warned that excluding American citizens from the Court's investigations would set a dangerous precedent.
These statements were made while the independent UN commission of inquiry headed by Pillai announced last year that Israel committed genocide in Gaza; A report that faced the anger of the Israeli authorities.
