Quentin Tarantino's first play titled The Popinjay Cavalier starring Sacha Baron Cohen will be staged at the Phoenix Theater in London from March.

This play was written and directed by Tarantino. This work, which is described as an adventure comedy, will start its trial run from February 23 (March 4) and its official opening night is scheduled for March 18 (March 27). The performances will continue for three months and will end on June 13. Tickets for the show are on sale via the official website and start at £25.

The story of The Popinjay Cavalier takes place in Europe in the 1830s. This is a lively comedy about deception and identity change, inspired by epic adventures and swordplay in theater and cinema. Tarantino said about the performance of this play in London's West End:

I look forward to providing West End audiences with a memorable and entertaining evening.

The official description of the play reads:

This work is a broad celebration of the art of theater and its romantic and exaggerated effects, and it contains Tarantino's distinctive style and humor. The Popinjay Cavalier was inspired by the old Hollywood swordplay and adventure classics, and the writings of George Bruce, Ernest Weida, and Jesse Lasky Jr. were also sources of inspiration.

Sacha Baron Cohen said about working with Tarantino:

Quentin called and I agreed before he could even utter the first curse word. When the best director in the world calls you, you don't ask any more questions. I am very happy that we are going to have our first West End experience together. Of course, I have made him promise not to treat me too gently.

Tom Rothman, president and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Sonia Friedman, producers of the show, called it a pleasure and an honor to work with Tarantino to develop this work, and described it as a great adventure. They said in a statement:

It is our joy and honor to work with Quentin to develop this play and it will undoubtedly be an adventurous experience. How lucky we are that one of the greatest storytellers of our time has chosen to perform his first theatrical work. Watching Quentin work in the training room is a wonderful experience. His passion for working with actors, swordsmen, acrobats, musicians and creative team members is transferred to others. It's fun to hear his language and catchy dialogues come to life and discover how his mental world takes shape on stage.

Rothman and Friedman also described Sacha Baron-Cohen as a bold and creative actress who has the wit, mischief and courage needed to play this role. They said:

We feel very lucky to have produced this show. The audience is going to have a great and enjoyable experience.

Tim Phillips will compose the music for the show and other cast names will be announced soon.
