Houthis Say They Captured More Than 700 Government Soldiers in Taiz Province

Abdulqader al-Murtada, head of Ansar Allah's committee for prisoner affairs, said dozens of military commanders are among those captured.

Doha, October 15. /TASS/. Abdul Qadir al-Mortaza, head of the prisoners' affairs committee, Ansarullah, said the Yemeni Ansarullah movement's Houthis say they have captured more than 700 government army soldiers during clashes in Taiz province in southwestern Yemen.

He quoted the ambassador of Arjan, who is under the control of the Houthis, and said: In this conflict, the armed forces captured more than 700 people in Taiz, among them dozens of military commanders.

On October 12, the Houthis said they had gained control of a range of areas in Taiz province and pushed government forces out of these areas. On Wednesday, the armed forces of the internationally recognized government of Yemen reported that they had neutralized about 1,250 militants and destroyed more than 460 of their vehicles as part of Operation Dawn of Yemen.

The armed confrontation between government forces and Houthi rebels has been ongoing in Yemen since August 2014. The situation worsened dramatically this summer. In early August 2026, Ansarullah launched an operation in the southwest of the country and took control of the port city of Mokha and areas along the Bab al-Mandab Strait in western Yemen on September 10-11. Government forces launched several counter-attacks near the strait in the following days. On October 5, Rashad al-Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, announced the start of a large-scale Operation Tolo Yemen with the support of the Saudi-led coalition to liberate the capital from the rebels.
