A professional Dota 2 player has claimed that he had to play a full match of the game in front of police officers to prove his identity.
Nongnara Tira Mahanon, known as 23savage, who currently plays as the main carry for Xipto eSports, has claimed that police raided the team's training facility in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week. In a Facebook post, he explained that the officers handcuffed the team members and confiscated their personal belongings.
According to 23savage, officers then questioned the players to determine why they were in the city and whether they were esports professionals. Apparently, one of the agents is familiar with Dota and is willing to check the account of this player on Instagram to find evidence to prove his professional background.
According to the published description, the photo that 23savage recently shared with Ms. Puiyi, a well-known Malaysian influencer, had published, seemed somewhat acceptable to the agents. That evidence was apparently enough to unlock his handcuffs and move on to a test that mattered more: his true skill at defending the Ancients in Dota 2.
23savage then entered a Dota 2 match in the presence of police officers and managed to record 32 kills as Kez. The player claims that his performance convinced the officers to release the team members.
Users in the comments section of 23savage's post quickly doubted his claims and suggested that it was just a joke. However, he still defended his narrative in response to comments. Reddit users are also still skeptical about the authenticity of this player's story, although some say with a humorous tone that this story could help save Velo's online multiplayer game.
This incident does not seem to have affected the performance of the Xipto eSports team. The team continues to thrive in Southeast Asia's Dota 2 competition and recently won the EPL SEA tournament without losing a single tournament series. Xipto showed impressive performance by registering 10 consecutive victories.
The current composition of this team includes the following players:
Xipto members are now competing for a spot in DreamLeague Season 30. The Dota 2 game in 2026 has also faced a significant increase in the number of players and recently reached the highest number of simultaneous players since 2022. The game continues to receive periodic content updates and patches, though Velo's focus is now largely on the company's new moba-style project, Deadlock.
