Dave Roberts keeps Shuhei Ohtani in Dodgers NLCS Game 3 lineup despite postseason woes.
Dave Roberts is keeping Shuhei Ohtani in the Dodgers' Game 3 NLCS lineup despite a 150 percent postseason average and zero extra-base hits against the Brewers.
Ohtani should be benched for his terrible game Don't @ Me w/ Dan Dakich
Ninja: "Remember we were talking about Jose Ramirez and you're like, where do I put this guy? You watch Ohtani. It's like, where do I put this guy now?"
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts probably never thought he would have to cut Shuhei Ohtani from his lineup during a postseason series. always
But after the team lost the NLCS 2-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers with Ohtani struggling, a decision had to be made for Game 3 at Dodger Stadium.
The final verdict? Roberts will trust his Japanese superstar.
"He's adamant that he feels good enough to be out there," Roberts told reporters on Tuesday during the team's offseason Tuesday about Ohtani's left knee and right arm ailments. "He's about to find something with the radiation. I feel good about that."
Ohtani played as the designated hitter for the Dodgers, but has been in decline throughout the postseason. His batting average is now .150 after going 0-for-4 with two hits in Game 2 against the Brewers in Milwaukee. He also has no extra base hits or RBIs in the playoffs.
It was Roberts who sparked the debate about whether or not Ohtani should be in the Game 3 lineup after his comments Monday night to The Athletic.

Roberts ultimately decided the four-time MVP would get another shot after meeting with president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomez.
"He was absolutely convinced that he was mechanically involved in something," added Roberts. He was determined that he could help us, that he was good enough to help us win a baseball game. So, that's all I need to hear.
"The symptoms shouldn't be the reason I can't hit," Ohtani added, through his translator Will Ireton. He said he takes "full responsibility" for how he plays in October.
Ohtani's injury is one of the injuries he's dealt with during the regular season, and his arm will need to go on the injured list to get better.
But it clearly hinders the slugger who hasn't pitched at home since Aug. 18 — something Ohtani isn't used to.
Roberts noted that his faith in Ohtani "has never wavered," and his decision in Game 3 is a testament to that.
Will it pay off in a game that looks like a must-win to regain momentum with the reigning World Series champions?
