Gasperini: We Were Better Than Real Madrid, They Only Had Corners
Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma's head coach, believes his side deserved victory against Real Madrid and says Real's only threat was from corners.
According to "Varzeh Se", Roma head coach Gianpiero Gasperini appeared in a press conference at his team's stadium after the 4-3 defeat against Real Madrid and talked about the performance of his students and the events of this match. In this match, Rome was ahead with the result of 3-1, but in the final moments, Real Madrid came back to the game using consecutive corners and finally won 4-3.
"Corners, three goals exactly the same. It was very easy. This is what upsets us. The performance and presence of the team on the field was very good, but the result is the same. "There is a danger that we forget the whole match and only think about those seven minutes, but I will not do that."
"It was Real Madrid's only weapon. Of course, we should not forget that this is a completely valid method and they used it well. We are vulnerable in such situations which rarely happen to us. They were in an absolutely critical situation and should be given credit. They had corners in the first half, but in the final minutes, we were paralyzed by fear on those corners.
We scored very easily. It's a deep shame, because a game played the way it did shouldn't have ended with that ending. "We are disappointed with the way the match ended, but I think overall we were much better than Real Madrid."
"We have to work on the positives, so even if this defeat is heavy, we have to get over it quickly, otherwise we risk losing all the good things we saw in this match."
Mourinho said Roma died in the final minutes. Do you have an opinion?
"If there was a team that looked out of breath, it was Real Madrid. We outplayed them in everything, they only scored from corners, but other than that we definitely got the job done. It is true that we have to learn how to see games to the end, those final minutes were decisive. "We have to strengthen our style of play and correct the negative points."
